Will of James Everett

of Beaufort Co., N.C.

(1800)

. . . . . In the name of God amen.
. . . . . I JAMES EVERETT of Beaufort County and state of North Carolina being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die. Therefore I do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give my soul unto God that gave it, and as for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner, nothing doubting, but that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again through the almighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate which it has pleased God to bless me with in this life.
. . . . . I give and bequeath in manner and form following.
. . . . . Item: I lend my plantation to my daughter, HANNAH, during her life and then after her death I give it unto my grandson James POTTER and his heirs and assigns forever.
. . . . . Item: I give James POTTER as likely a heifer as any I own.
. . . . . Item: I give and bequeath unto Robert JONES my land I bought of Robert EVERETT to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
. . . . . Item: I give to Micjah EVERETT, William POTTER and Robert JONES one hundred acres of marsh to be equally divided amongst them, all their heirs and assigns forever.
. . . . . Item: I leave all my hogs to be sold to pay my just debts.
. . . . . Item: I leave the rest of my cattle after EVERETT hath fifteen head, which I give him a deed of gift for, to be equally divided amongst my five grand children.
. . . . . Item: I give Micjah EVERETT two ewes and the rest of my sheep I leave to be equally divided between William POTTER and Robert JONES.
. . . . . Item: I give my daughter, HANNAH, a chest then all the rest of my property I leave to be sold and the money to be divided between William POTTER and Robert JONES.
. . . . . Item: I give all my wearing clothes to be divided between my two brothers ROBERT AND HUGH and I do hereby ordain, constitute and appoint William POTTER and Robert JONES and Micjah EVERETT my executers of this my last will and testament and I utterly disallow, revoke and disown all and every other will and bequeath, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
. . . . . In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of October 1800.

. . . . . Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of us.
. . . . . Hugh EVERETT
. . . . . John LACEY
