Joshua
Lacy Spain, Jr.,
born 1829 in Beaufort Co., was the son of Joshua Lacy Spain, Sr. (1801-1848) &
Sally ???. Joshua enlisted as a Private in Beaufort
County in Co. B, 17th Infantry Regiment on May 2, 1861 and mustered out on
Mar. 26, 1862. The 17th Regiment saw battle at Fort. Hatteras in
Aug. 1861 and at Roanoke Island in Feb. 1862.
