R.E. Mayo Company |
In 1939, R. E. Mayo moved his business from Bayboro to the north side of the Hobucken Bridge in Hobucken. Roland Styron (1888-1979) also owned and operated a fish house in 1939 for several years beside the Mayo business. They purchased seafood from local fishermen for transport to other areas. Also in 1939 boats from Core Sound and Ocracoke brought the first shrimp to Hobucken. The shrimp had been caught in Bay River. In 1950, R. E. Mayo moved his business to the south side of the Hobucken Bridge. |
