John Alfred Lupton House

This house was located at the intersection of Hwy 304 and Lover’s Lane.  It was destroyed by a tornado in 1999.  This house originally sat further north in the woods, and was moved to this lot by John Alfred Lupton (1879-1928).  The earliest known residents of this house were John and his wife, Sallie Elizabeth “Sal-John” Jones (1880-1953), daughter of Steven D. Jones and Julia Hodges Jones.  This one-and-a-half story, frame house had a one-story kitchen ell (right side) with a connected breezeway.  This house was later occupied by John and Sally’s sons, Eugene Lupton (1910-1977) and Robinson Lupton (1900-1981).  Next to this house was a locomotive track (no longer in existence) which ran from Hobucken to Jones Bay.  The train was operated by the Holden family.  Products were carried by train to Jones Bay where they were next carried by water to New Bern.
