Intracoastal Waterway

The Intracoastal Waterway was cut from the head of Jones’ Bay to Gales Creek, land lying between and extending to the east was thought of as a peninsula and known as Point of Swamp and Tillman’s Island with Jones’ Island located at the very end.   

Top picture:  Picture taken in April 1976 is a view of the Hobucken Bridge and Intracoastal Waterway from the Hobucken Fire Tower.  The two-story house across and at the end of the bridge on the right is the home of the “Jitter Bug”, as it was known in the 1950s, owned and operated by Charles Ives (1907-1985), and his wife, Mary Williamson Ives (1910-1988).
Bottom picture:  Looking south towards Jones’ Bay from the Gene Potter Memorial Bridge.

The U.S. Coast Guard Station at Hobucken on the Intracoastal Waterway is located on the north side of the Gene Potter Bridge.
