Jesse Monroe Carawan House

Located in Lowland along Lowland Road (SR 1230) just west of where this route and SR 1232 intersect, is this two-story frame house and barn where Jesse Monroe Carawan (1858-1935), son of Benajah Carawan & Nancy Duke, and his wife, Mary Celia Hopkins Carawan (1859-1924), daughter of Henry Huggins Hopkins and Nancy E. Clark, once lived.  The old cistern, used for the family’s water supply, can be seen at the corner of the front porch.  Located just west of this home site are the remains of the Henry Carawan home.  Pictures taken in January 2002.
