Zachariah T. & Cordelia Spencer

Zachariah Taylor & Cordelia Ann (Rollinson) Spencer Family

General Zachariah Taylor Spencer was born to William Benjamin & Mary "Polly" Spencer on Aug. 17, 1841 & died in Lowland, NC on June 22, 1914 [see death certificate which is different than his tombstone.].  He is buried in the Flowers Cemetery in Pamlico Co.  He was first married to Martha Neal, daughter of John Hardy Neal & Maranda Simmons, in Hyde Co. on Mar. 31, 1870.  The 1870 Hyde census shows Zachariah & his new bride living with his widowed father and next door to her parents. They had one child, Roger Spencer, who was born c1872. It is believed that Martha, and perhaps baby Roger, died soon after his birth.

Zachariah's 2nd marriage was to Cordelia Ann Rollinson in Hyde Co., NC on May 15, 1873.  Cordelia, daughter of Robert R. Rollinson & Dinah Whidbee, was born Mar. 2, 1853 in Frisco, NC and died Jan. 2, 1916 [see death certificate].  She is also buried in the Flowers Cemetery.  In 1880 Z.T. & Cordelia were living in the Hatteras Twp. of Dare Co., NC where they were raising their 3 daughters, Mary Ann, Lodena, & Louisa. Between 1880-1900 they had moved into Twp. #4 of Pamlico County.  The 1900 census states that this couple had 8 children but only 7 were living.
