YATT2 DAVIS (JOHN1) was born 1782 in Obituary (Alamance Paper May 1, 1877) age 95 yrs., and died April 1877 in Orange Co., N. C. 2 miles N. of Chapel Hill, N. C .. He married CATHERINE DANIEL July 28, 1810 in Orange Co., N. C., daughter of CHRISTOPHER DANIEL and NANCY MASSEY. She was born Abt. 1790, and died Bef. 1848.Notes for WYATT DAVIS:
Wyatt Davis was living with his son Duncan C. Davis in 1870 Census, 84 years old.
Wyatt Davis gave his son Duncan C. Davis 220 acres of land on which I have resided for the last thirty firve or forty years more or less in a deed dated 2/22/1866, proved Feb. Term 1867, lying in the county of Orange, NC. He also gave to Duncan C. Davis the 84 1/2 acres left to him by his son William A. Davis, per Will Book "H" page 180. On 9/1/1873 Wyatt Davis gave his son Duncan C. Davis the 15 acres of land per Book 44, page 432.
Wyatt Davis's brother, Anderson Davis was bondsman for a marriage bond for Wyatt Davis and Catherine Daniel.
The 1850 Census for Orange Co., NC has him as a Farmer with Real Estate value of $700.00. He can read and write.
Names is spelled Wyett, Wyott, Wyatt Davis.
Found in Mortality Schedule a Wyett Davis, 85 Male, White,Widowed, Farmer died of Disease of Prostrate Gland. Dr. was J. Q. Anderson.

The Division of Land from the estate of Christopher Daniel, Orange Co. Deed Book 33, page 009, dated 1/18/1848, went to the children of Catherine Daniel Davis. Lot #1 to Christopher Davis, Lot #2 to Frances Davis, Lot #3 to Eliz. Davis, Lot #4 to Duncan C. Davis, Lot #5 to Amelia Davis, Lot #6 to William A. Davis, and Lot #7 to Nancy Davis. Since Catherine Daniel Davis was not listed in the Land Division, it makes be believe she was deceased by Jan. 1848.

At the end of the will in Records of Wills, Hillsboro, NC, Book "G" page 209 for William A. Davis there is a note(see minutes). What does this mean??????
Will for William A. Davis was proved in open court and ordered to be recorded at the same time Wyatt Davis, the Executor qualified according to law. Looks like William A. Davis had a dreaded illness and knew that he would die, as he gave his father all his land, slave, tools etc. Wyatt Davis gave to his son, Duncan C. Davis, in his will the tract of land which was left to me by my son William Davis containing 84 1/2 acres of land lying on the Oxford Road leading from the Village of Chapel Hill to Oxford and about three miles from said Village. This tract of land was known as the Booker Land.

Deed Book of Orange Co., N. C. 41, page 261-263, sale of land to Joseph Elliott for 48 acres and 73 acres on waters of New Hope by Barconia Davis (husband is Thomas Davis). The land was assigned during the lifetime of Frances Carden. Believe the 48 acres was received by Frances Davis Carden from the Land Division of Christopher Daniel, Deed Book 33, page 009 in 1848.

C., daughter of DANIEL RICH and ANNA CLAPP. She was born 1820, and died Bef. 1856. He married (2) MARY (EMILY) PRITCHARD May 26, 1857 in Orange Co., N. C.. Did Sally die after 1850 and he married Emily before 1860 Census. There is a Charlie Cole age 14 living with Christopher Davis AND Emily in 1860 Census.
Nancy has him as Charlie Cole Davis.
James Davis was bondsman for the marriage of Christopher Davis and Sally Rich.
The 1850 Census for Orange Co., NC has him as a Farmer and that he and his wife can read and write. He was living next door to Mary Patterson (Mann Patterson had died in 1835) and Daniel Carlton (Joseph Elliott lived next to Daniel Carlton who was 80 years old in 1850 Census). Also Close by was Betsy Carlton age 50 and Stanford Lee (Leigh) age 40 and Alexander Blackwood are 32.

In Orange County in Death & Marriage notices from the Hillsborough Recorder 1820-1879 there is a marriage of Thomas Davis to Barsiena Proctor, dtr of Sterling Proctor, in this county 23rd May, 1857 by Solomon Shepherd, all of this county. Barsiena Davis, wife of Thomas Davis sold land on New Hope Creek to Joseph Elliott.
From the book North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 Vol IV Infantry page 515, Thomas C. Davis, Sargent, resided in Orange County, NC. Took the Oath of Allegiance at Fort Delaware, Delaware, June 7, 1865. No further record.

Wyatt Davis was living with Duncan in census of 1870 (census has 84 yrs.)
An application for Letters of Administration in the Orange County Court, was filled by L.A.M. Davis (Duncan's wife) stating that Duncan C. Davis, late of said County, is dead, without leaving an Will and Testament, dated 21 July, 1892.
D. McCauley was their bondsman for a marriage bond.
The 1850 Census as Duncan as a Farmer and that he can read and write.
Deaths in Raleigh Newspaper on page 74 has Davis, Duncan C., aged 69, an esteemed citizen of Chapel Hill, Feb 9, 1892. (2-11-92).
From the book North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 Vol V Infantry page 68, Co. G 11th Regiment N. C. Troops, Duncan Davis, Private resided in Orange County where he enlisted on December 15,1863 for the war. Present or accounted for until captured near Petersburg, Virginia (POW at Burgess' Mill, Va.) October 27, 1864. Confinded at point Lookout, Maryland (on 31 October 1864), until released on June 12, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

Richard Emerson Davis said he is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Durham, N. C. but I found a Bronze Marker at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, Orange Co., N. C. that has Veteran Co. A 33rd Regiment N C St. CSA. Served: Newbern to Petersburg 1861-1865 Erected by great-grandchildren. His Marker has him as Christopher Daniel Davis, some records has him as Daniel C. Davis?????

Vol IX Co. A, 33 Regiment NC Troops has Davis, Christopher D, Private born in Orange County, NC where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Orange County at age 25, November 30, 1861. Present or accounted for until March-April, 1862 (POW on March 15, 1862 --estimated day), when he was reported to be a prisoner of war. Records of the Federal Provost Marshal do not substantiate the report of his capture. Reported absent without leave in November-December, 1862. Returned to duty in January-February, 1863. Present or accounted for until captured (POW) at Petersburg, Virginia, April 3, 1865. Confined at Hart's Island, New York Harbor, April 7, 1865. Released at Hart's Island on June 17, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
