Notes for ANANIAS OLIVER ELLIFF:
A GOOD MAN GONE HOME

A.O. Elliff, was born in TN, Jan. 16, 1834. He came to Texas in 1882, and to Swisher county in 1902. He was an estimable citizen, a devoted husband, a kind and affectionate father, a devout christian, and after a long and painful illness which terminated in death on Friday night last, at 10:30 o'clock, his patient soul went forth to God to receive the reward of the faithful ones who love and serve the Lord. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church here Saturday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock by Rev. O.W. Dean, after which the interment was in the Tulia cemetery.

There were present at his bedside at the time of death, his aged wife, four sons, Henry, J.D., John and Dan; six daughters, Mesdames A.K. Elkins, Maggie Hawkins, Belle Casebeer, Fannie Stith and Misses Lela and Ethel Elliff, and his brother Sam Elliff, of San Benito. Two of his daughters, Mesdames Susie Stratton of Taiban, ? (torn) and Mary Rodden of Newport, TX, were with him until a few days before he died, but were called away by sickness in their families.

Mr. Elliff had been a member of the Baptist church for more than 47 years and at the time of his death was a deacon in the Tulia congregation.

He leaves a wife, 12 children, 39 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and everyone who knew him to mourn his departure, but not without hope do they mourn, for God's promises are sure and steadfast, and in the "Over There", they know he has entered into eternal rest.
