John Reed/Reid/Read

A John Reed (any spelling--Reed, Reid, Read) married Eliza Tate in Orange Co. in 1787. I can't find anything else on this family. She had a brother named James Tate, who was bondsman at the 1787 marriage. John Reed was bondsman at the marriage of James Tate also, so they must have felt connected. I am not certain but think perhaps this John Reed is actually my John Clement Reid.

John Clement Reid is the father of my Jesse Reid (b. 1803 in Wake Co., NC). John is hard to research because he could have gone by the name John, Clement, or both. Also records are spelled Read, Reid, Reed. A problem.

I have a record from someone that says the father of Eliza Tate was a George. However, I wouldn't post it because after I sent it to a mailing list, I got lots of responses telling me some of the entries were wrong. I haven't researched Tates myself.

The below information was provided to me by another Tate researcher and I don't know that everything on the Tate's is totally accurate.

John Reed & Eliza Tate married 5 Mar. 1787, James Tate, bondsman -
Orange Co. NC. I believe that James Tate was married in Orange Co. NC a little later, with a John Reed as bondsman.
I am interested in contacting researchers who have knowledge of the John Reed/Reid who married Eliza/Elizabeth Tate in Orange Co. NC in 1787. The name spelling might have been Reed/Reid/Read. A son (Jesse Reid) was born in 1803, probably in Wake Co., NC.

Here is what I know so far (from another researcher). Allied families seem to be Scoby, Nelson, Mitchell, Allen, Wood/Woods of Orange Co. NC. Elizabeth Tate was a daughter of George Tate and his wife Jennet (Scoby?). .
