Notes for PERCY EDWARD PENDERGRASS:

Have been told that its in the minutes of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church that Percy Edward Pendergrass was kicked out of the church in the mid 1890's for using

Profanity, late reinstated. I wonder if this is where Clara Bell Davis got her use of profanity from as it was in her genes, but at the same time I can understand why she would talk like this when she has a husband who has no desire to do anything but live. As long as he had a roof over his head and food to eat and a wad of chewing tobacco, he was perfectly happy.

Percy Edward Pendergrass furnished more wild Turkeys to the grocery stores in Durham, NC than any other person. If he heard the call of a wild Turkery, he would grab his shot gun and head in that direction. When found dead, it was believed that he was on his way to shoot a Turkey as he had his gun by his side and may have become over excited and died of a heart attach.

The 1880 Census has him in Durham, Orange, NC., age 26. He has 1 white female servant (Lue Andrews) living in the household.

His Marriage Certificate has age 19 when he married June 15, 1873.

Notes for JANE REBECCA WILKINS:

Death Certificate has cause of death as Dilitation of Heart with regurgitations. Informant as W. N. Pendergrass, age 68 years.

Her marriage Certificate said her age is 18 and this would make her born in 1857 (not 1847 as shown on tombstone) when she married June 15th., 1873.

Ernest Mack Pendergrass had land that joined Lula Jane Pendergrass Davis's and what is now Chapel Hill Country Club. When Lottie and Lula need each other, the hollered and the other would answer, then pack up their children , go see what was wrong. The land that Lula Davis lived on was once a part of the Pope Land and is where Ephesus Church Road and George King Road join and

runs toward "The Oaks" development.

Ernest Mack Pendergrass legally changed his name to spell Pendergraph. (His sister Lula Jane Pendergrass Davis said it did not matter which ways the names for Pendergraph/Pendergrass/Pendergraft etc was spelled--they were all from the same pack of dogs).
