With special thanks to Bebe Fox, Mr. Strowd's granddaughter, for sharing this photo with us!

Bebe gives us this info about the background in the photo: "I believe that was the old Seaton Barbee house across the street, the house was replaced by the Carolina Coffee Shop, I don't know when the house was razed. To the left of the house was the original University Methodist Church.  That building was replaced in about 1937.  The small amount of brick building you can see to the right of the Barbee house remains and has been Julian's, a men's clothing store."

The drawing to the right was done by William Prince Smith, from a description provided by Mr. Strowd, who built the Strowdmobile when he was 16 years old.
