Warren County North Carolina Will book 16 p. 213-214
In the name of God Amen by Dorcas Tanner of the County of Warren and state of North Carolina being of sound disposing mind and memory bank God for the same and calling to mind the morality of my body and that it is appointed unto all persons or Person to die do make an ordain best my last Will and Testament in manner and form followeth, that is to say first and principally I recommend my soul into God who gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian like and decent matter at the direction of my friends, in sheer and certain hope of its resurrection at the last day and asked to the world to the Estate which almighty God has blessed made where into their slide, I give and dispose of it in the following manner.
In premise I give to my daughter Cele Williams my sorrel Rangler filly together with her increase if any at the time of my death, also – horned cow that I have from my son Edward Tanner and her increase from this time if any should be at the time of my death, also a riding chair and harness, my bed and furniture, and all my wearing apparel, also one half of all the Warren, fodder, leaked, oats, molasses, sugar, lower, butter, ginger, allspice, and Monday that I may be possessed a at the time my death.
I give in to my son Joseph Tanner by Negro woman named Billy and all my stock of forces, towels, hogs, and sheep that I may possess the excepting Wrangler filly and Cow with their increases which I have devised as above to my daughter Cele Williams, also I give to him, my son Joseph, the other half of all the Warren, fodder, weak, oats, molasses, sugar, flour, butter, ginger, allspice and Monday that I may be possessed the at the time of my death. It is to say I wish and desire that the last mentioned articles of corn, fodder, weak, oats, molasses, sugar, flour, butter, ginger, allspice money she be equally divided between my said children Cele Williams and Joseph Tanner and further any article of matter of property with which I may be possessed at the time of my doubts of my own right which is not herein mentioned, it is my Will and desire should be also equally divided between my daughter Cele Williams and my son Joseph Tanner, and I do a plate William Twitty Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and disanull all former Will be it written or spoken. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of October in the year of our Lord 1808.

Signed and sealed and acknowledge by the said Dorcas Tanner to be her last Will and Testament in the presence of LB and dreams, Mary Andrews {her mark X} and Parmiller Andrews {her mark}.
Warren County November quart 1811. This last Will and Testament of Dorcas Tanner deceased was exhibited in open court for probate and proven by the oath of LB Andrews a subscribing witness, and on motion it is ordered to be recorded, upon which William Twitty the Executor named in the said Will renounced his Executor ship, and Joseph Tanner by order of court for Wyatt as administrator with the will annexed.
