Comments:
I have several lost connections within these families. My grandfather lived with the Medearises who had gone to Wayne county Ind because of intermarriages among the McKinneys, Madearises and the Pegrams. My grandfather was Andrew Jackson McKinney. His father was George Jackson McKinney who migrated from N.C. His father is supposed to be Sampson McKinney (death certificate) married to _______Pegram. I can't find Sampson in any offical N.C. records nor his wife's first name. Help!! I think that there are ties to Dempsey McKinney and the Fanny McKinney who married George Pegram. Fanny is a family name. There is a marriage bond record of a George J. Mckinney and Eliza Lancaster in 1839-Guilford Co. This might be him, but no proof. George J. Mckinney is supposed to have 2 children in N.C. but again no proof. Thanks This is a McKinneymaze

Ginger Christmas-Beattie,
I read with great interest your article " An Early American Christmas in The Revolutionary Era" after finding the following:

A New Beginning for North Carolina Masons

Chap IV p3

………..To this invitation six persons responded, including tow of those who had issued it. Brothers Johnson and Scott with Thomas Turner and John Withers, John Burk, and William Elliott convened on May 4th and listened to a reading of the “General Chargeö which had been first delivered December 27, 1749. They agreed to meet again in two weeks in the town of Warrenton.

The nine Masons that assembled in Warrenton in mid May, we nothing if not optimistic. I believe there is a real chance that John Burk may be my long lost ancestor. My 3rd great grandfather Newton Jasper Burk was a Mason. His father Samuel Burks was born 1799 in Rowan Co. NC. and was in Smith/Warren Co.in 1820 which later became Cannon Co., TN. His first son was named John and it is a name passed to every generation in our Burk family.

Do you have any idea where I could get a copy of the notes you referred to in your article ". We do have meeting notes of the Lodge before 1774 and after 1784 that were uncovered in a storeroom of the Old Bute County courthouse at Warrenton, N.C. in 1908".

This could be a major find for us, as I believe it is not uncommon for Masons sons and grandsons that were also Masons. Your article was excellent, thank you for sharing it.

My grandfather was from the Bracy, Va. area and moved his family to NC about 1910. He would have crossed the Roanoke and I'm looking for the most likely river crossings and would appreciate any leads anyone could give me. I'm guessing he would have used the crossing of the Indian Trading Path which was near Hawtree Creek in Warren County. I don't think there is any evidence of this old path existing now, but would love to learn otherwise. Perhaps there exists some old Warren County maps or other old references to the Trading Path location. Does Warren County have a historical association or historian? Thanks for any help..

I am searching for my ancestors. I am not sure where to start, but so far I think that they came from England and settled in Warren North Carolina. While doing a little web researching I found that the Alston family mixed in with the Kearney family. My grand father was Will Kearney and he married Lula Mae Walker. He died of cancer in 1985, in Rocky Mount North Carolina. Soon after my grandmother married William Jasper Alston, my grandfather's cousin. I am not sure when she found out that they were related, but I do know that they are not first or second cousins. Jasper Alston too died of cancer. My biggest question is, when did the Kearney/Alston family line turn black and how? ANy information would be greatly appreciated. thank you:)

Comments:
My ancestor, Isham Drury Bobbitt, was born in Warren County, N.C. in 1754. According to his Revolutionary War Service Record,Isham entered the service on 1 Feb 1780 and served under the command of a "Captain Christman." They marched to Halifax where Colonel Allen took command of the regiment.

I am trying to determine the full name of Captain Christman and whether or not there is a connection between the Bobbitt and Christman familes as noted in "The Bobbitt Family in America" by John W. Bobbitt. Three of Isham's children married Christman's: Nancy married John Christman (1811); Sarah married Michael Christman(1811); Stephen Bobbitt married Barbara Chrisman(1814). As you will see, the name Christman was written both with and without the 't.'

Can you provide the first name of Captain Christman and/or info regarding a connection to the Bobbitt's?

Thank you,

Judy Roberts

I am looking for any info on Benjamin Whitlow, (b. abt. 1785 in Mecklenburg, Co., Va) and Frances Wright who married in Warren County, NC on July 26, 1822. Frances Whitlow shows in the 1830 NC Census in Hawtree District, Warren Co. with a small boy and girl, and another girl age 15-20. Frances does not show again in any Census. Apparently Benjamin died before the 1830 Census, as I have found no record of him after that date.

Susan Whitlow married Guilford Talley, Jr. in Warren Co. on Dec. 22, 1835.

In the 1840 NC Census in Warren County, Major Whitlow, b. about 1804, shows.

Does anyone have any info on any of these Whitlows? Who are the parents of Susan Whitlow; of Major Whitlow? Who are the parents of Frances Wright? (Her marriage bond says "daughter of Ann".

If I am correct, then after Charles died, Nannie married a Columbus H. Buchanan? Then she died and in the 1930 census, Columbus is shown as a widower living by himself, age 74....and two houses away from his stepdaughter Lucy Mitchell, who is now a widow (had been married to a Bernard Mitchell and lived next door to her mother and step-father (Buchanan) in the 1910 census?

Hi Ginger, First, I want to say thank you to you and all your gang at the Warren County website. You do a fantastic job. It has been a lot of help to me, and I just simply enjoy it so much. So many names I have heard my mother and her sisters talk about during my younger years. One aunt was Tempie Tucker, postmistress at Warren Plains for a number of years, and Mary Tucker Rodwell, wife of Arthur Rodwell, who was the Seaboard Airline Railroad agent for many years also at Warren Plains. Keep up the good work!
I have copies of wills from a great-great grandfather Ransom Walker, and a great-great-great grandfather Daniel Newman. I have a partial copy of a payroll list from the Revolutionary War from "the United States of America to the State of North Carolina" and is for cash paid to Jacob Blunt, Paymaster. I have the first page and the page on which my ancestor, Thomas Paschall, is listed. Paschall was from Bute County, but I do not see any counties named in this list. The Walker will and the Revolutionary War accts. I have recently received from NC State Archives.
Are you interested in having copies of these items? I can type and Email copies to you, but there are words in all that I cannot be sure of. I would like for someone who has had more experience with old copies to check behind me. You will have to instruct me on how to go about this. There may be other items you may be interested in, but this is as far as I am prepared to go right now.
My name is Ray (Poland) Bradshaw, I live in Franklin, VA. I am female--there is confusion because of my name sometimes.

Searching for any information on the Weldon's of Warren County from the period 1775 to 1850. Find record of
William Weldon with wife "Winnie" and would like to know ancestry and decendants. He ran a tavern in the early
1800's from info we find. Possibly he was William
Weldon, Sr. with son William Weldon, Jr. Do not know
if this connects with Sales Weldon for sure.
Ancestry.com indicates a William Weldon of Warren
County, possibly brother to Mary Weldon who
married Judge Hall of Warrenton about that time.
Would appreciate any information available.

In Nov. 1821 Jane Smith received a gold medal for scholarship from The Warrenton Female Academy. Jane was the only child of William Rand Smith & Martha Norsworthy of Isle of Wight Co., VA.and was born in 1805. Jane's Norsworthy grandparents were George (one of many by that name) and Christian. Mrs. Kerr took me to the house which had housed the school, and which later became a school for black children. I have always wondered why Jane was in school in Warren County, but is it possible that the George who died in Warren County was her grandfather? Does anyone know the names of the children of the George Norsworthy who was in Warren County?
