Martin and Elizabeth's 2 children, George M. Martin and Nancy Martin. The 1900 Census incorrectly shows she has had only 1 child because we know of 5 who lived to adulthood. Her son, John Henry Pegram, is living next door.  George Alson Pegram and Nancy Hester had the following children:

+660                      i.    Benjamin F. Pegram, born on 3 Sep 1851, Forsyth Co., North Carolina; married Mariah J. Parrish, in 1876, Forsyth Co., North Carolina; died on 9 Oct 1914, Forsyth Co., North Carolina.

The census shows she has had 7 children with 6 living.  This would appear to be an error since there are 9 children shown on the 1880 census being all except Amanda and John Henry. We know that John Henry had married 1879.  We do not know about Amanda.  Jesse E. Pegram and Elizabeth (Betsy) Younge had the following children:

Pegram, born October 1876 is living with James and is identified as his neice. Also living with them is Laura's daughter Lessie C., age 7 months.

Diana Malinda Talley (daughter of Nicholas Talley and Jane Elizabeth Clampitt) was born in Mar 1829 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  She died on 17 Dec 1914 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  James H. Pegram and Diana Malinda Talley had the following children:

Charles R. Preston (son of Nathaniel Preston and Elizabeth Cook) was born in 1840 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina.  He is found on 1850 census of Forsyth Co., North Carolina with his siblings and mother, Elizabeth, age 44 but Nathaniel has apparently died.

152.  Dempsey Gray Pegram (George-3, Edward-2, Daniel-1) was born about 1836 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

Dempsey Gray Pegram and Julia F. Barham were married on 4 Nov 1865 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  Julia F. Barham (daughter of Lemuel Barham and Elizabeth Pegram) was born in 1840 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina.  She died before 1873 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  We are not certain that Julia was his only wife.  On the 1880 Census, his wife's name is given as Elizabeth, indicating that he may have married a 2nd time.  Dempsey Gray Pegram and Julia F. Barham had the following children:

680                      i.    Luzena Pegram was born in 1868 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  She died before 1880 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

686                     v.    Green Pegram was born in Jun 1879 in Stokes Co., North Carolina.

153.  Alfred Walker Pegram (George-3, Edward-2, Daniel-1) was born about 1837 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  He died before 1889 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  In 1870, the couple were found living with Martha's mother, Nancy Pegram.

Alfred Walker Pegram and Martha Demaris Pegram were married on 25 Sep 1865 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  Martha Demaris Pegram (daughter of Elijah Pegram and Nancy McMichael) was born about 1847 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  She died on 17 Dec 1919 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 11 years. Martha shows she has had 6 children, all living.  The 1900 census incorrectly shows Elijah Walker Pegram as a son-in-law and Sallie M. Pegram and Mattie W. Pegram as daughters-in-law when they should have been shown as step-children of Martin McMichael since they are Martha's children by Alfred Walker   To confuse matters more, the 1910 Census shows a daughter, Nonie, age 21 in the home.  Martha still shows that she has had 6 children with 4 living. We are showing Nonie as found on the 1910 Census but it would appear that either the 1900 or 1910 Census has an error.  Alfred Walker Pegram and Martha Demaris Pegram had the following children:

687                      i.    Thomas D. Pegram was born in 1880 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

+688                     ii.    Elijah Walker Pegram, born on 24 Dec 1882; married Grace M. Edmondson, on 25 May 1902, Guilford Co., North Carolina; died on 2 Feb 1946.

689                    iii.    Sallie M. Pegram was born in Oct 1885 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

690                    iv.    Mattie W. Pegram was born in Dec 1887 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.

691                     v.    Nonie Pegram was born in 1889 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  Others have shown Nonie as a child of Martha and her second husband but the 1910 Census gives her name as Nonie Pegram.

154.  Melicia F Pegram (George-3, Edward-2, Daniel-1) was born in Oct 1838 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  The 1900 Census of Rockingham Co., North Carolina shows they have been married for 49 years.  They have had 7 children with 4 living but Robert Vance is the only child remaining at home.

Melicia F Pegram and Harrison Craven Truitt were married on 1 Dec 1860 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  Dempsey Gray Pegram, brother of Melicia, was the bondman.  Harrison Craven Truitt (son of Spencer Truitt and Nancy Palmer) was born in Dec 1836 in North Carolina.  The 1900 Census shows the couple have had 7 children with 4 living.  Melicia F Pegram and Harrison Craven Truitt had the following children:

+692                      i.    Thomas Settle Truitt, born in Oct 1862, Rockingham Co., North Carolina; married Bettie L., in 1902; died on 6 Jan 1930, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.

+693                     ii.    William J. Truitt, born in 1868, Rockingham Co., North Carolina; married Elizabeth Massey Simpson; died by 1890.

155.  John L. Pegram (George-3, Edward-2, Daniel-1) was born in 1863 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  He died about 1900.

John L. Pegram and Sallie Pope were married on 11 Jun 1882.  Sallie Pope was born in Apr 1866 in North Carolina.  She died on 8 Nov 1935 in Guilford Co., North Carolina.  Sallie was a widow at the time the 1900 census was taken on June 27, 1900.  The census shows she had had 6 children with 4 living, all of whom are still in the home. In 1930 she is shown as Sallie Neugent, a widow, living next to her son, John Walter Pegram.   Living with her is George Franklin Pegram, Jr. who is identified as her grandson.  John L.
