Newspaper clippings within the pages of the bible.

Departed this life, on the 13th instant, Mr. David Boyd, of Mecklenburg county. He has left a wife and seven children and a numerous circle of relatives an friends, to lament his loss.

DIED. On Wednesday morning last, after a tedious and most painful illness, in the 72d year of his age, Mr. James Durell one of the few surviving Patriots of the Revolution- one of the oldest and respected of the inhabitants of Petersburg, having been one of the earliest settlers, and ever classed among the fathers of thie town. Mr. Durell was a genuine Republican in politics; and a warm friend of his country - an active and useful Citizen, a good neighbor, a kind and provider father and most humane and considerate master Those who enjoyed his intimacy, will long remember him for the many excellent realities of his heart; and for the cheerfulness and good humor which he imparted to the extensive circle in which he moved.
May 8th 1827.

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT
At a [blurred]ed meeting of the Mecklenburg Independent Dragoons, held at Atkins's, on Saturday, the 9th February, 1839, Lieut. Dupuy took the Chair, and Thomas H. Williams acted as Secretary, when the following resolutions, offered by E.W. Henning, Esq., were unanimously adopted:
Resolved, That it is with feelings of the most sincere regret, that we are called upon to render the last tribute of the respect to the memory of Col. Conrad S. Boyd, late Commander of this Troop- that we deplore the melancholy event, which has deprived his country of an accomplished and zealous officer, and society of one of its most amiable and estimable citizens.
Resolved, That this Troop unite with the members of the Masonic Fraternity in the burial of our esteemed Commander at such time as may be hereafter designated.
Resolved, That in testimony of our respect for the memory of the deceased, the members of this corps will wear the usual badge of mourning for the space of 30 days.
Resolved, That the Lieutenant Commanding be requested to forward a copy of thee resolutions to the bereaved widow - also copies to the Editors of the Petersburg Constellation and Intelligencer, and Richmond Whig and Esquirer, with a request that they may be inserted in their respective parties.
JAMES B. DUPUY, Chairman.
Thos. H. Williams, Secretary

In Mecklenburg, Virginia, on the 26th April, in the 37th year of his age, DURELL BOYD, of Arkansas, while on a visit to his brother in is native State (Virginia). This brief notice is intended more to apprise his distant friends of his untimely and lamented death, than to eulogise the virtues which so strikingly and so beautifully adorned his character. The epitaph which is traced upon the hearts of his surviving friends and relatives, consecrated as it is by the warmest affection, is a prouder tribute to his memory than the storied urn or the marble monument. Of Durell Boyd it may truly be said, that no one has ever lived more warmly beloved, or died more deeply lamented. His were the virtues which, while they attracted respect and esteem for his character, won also a deep and lasting affection for the man. To an inflexible and unblemished integrity of character, which no vicissitude in life could warp, he added a lofty and chivalrous sense of honor, which scorned the practice of a mean action. None wee more distinguished than he, for a generous, self sacrificing benevolence of heart, a benevolence which expanded in charity towards all mankind- Frank, affable, sincere and engaging in his manners, he secured at once the respect and esteem of his numerous acquaintance, and bound them to him in the strongest bonds of affection. If he had his foibles (and who are exempt from them), they were more than redeemed by his shining virtues, and their remembrance will be blotted out in the tear which bedews and hallows his urn. What more need be said? Who would exchange the lustre of such a character for that of thie proudest volary of wealth or of fame? It ma be a gratification to his distant friends to learn that his demise was unattended with any of the painful and protracted sufferings of a sick bed. He had retired at an early hour to bed, seemingly well, and in the morning was found a corpse. When discovered, he was apparently in a placid sleep, and his spirit had taken its flight without a mortal pang or struggle.
