James Daniel Boyd, U.S. Army

Corp. James Daniel Boyd was born in Beaufort Co., NC (c.1843). At age 19, he enlisted in Co. A, 1st Regiment NC Union Volunteers on May 7, 1862 at Washington, NC. He was 5'8" tall, had a dark complexion, and dark eyes. He mustered out with 1st NC Regiment on June 27, 1865 at New Bern, NC. He married Mary Elizabeth Woolard had they seven children. James Daniel Boyd received a Federal Army pension of $12.47/month through 1899.

Two of James' brothers also served in Co. A, 1st Regiment NC Union Volunteers. They were Corp. Samuel Wilson Boyd of Beaufort Co., NC (c.1841). At age 22, he enlisted on June 1, 1863 at Washington, NC. Also Private John Wilson Boyd of Beaufort Co., NC (c.1846). At age 18, he enlisted on Jan. 14, 1864 at Washington, NC. Both also mustered out with regiment on June 27, 1865 at New Bern, NC.
