HISTORY OF THE
Thirty-Seventh Regt. U.S.C. Infantry

HISTORY OF COMPANY "A"

This Company was mustered into United States service January 30th, 1864, at the entrenched camp, near Norfolk, Virginia, as Company A, 3d North Carolina Colored Volunteers, of General WILD'S African Brigade.

The Company, since its organization, has been commanded by Captain Constantin NITZSCHE, who was brevetted major for gallant and meritorious services in the field. Owing to the strict discipline observed by the officers in command of the Company, several desertions have occurred. It may be mentioned, and with credit to this Company, that only three of its members have been tried by court martial since its muster in - Privates Kage Heath, Thomas B.N.
