Elizabeth Denton are selling land to William Williams. I'll be happy
to pay for copying and mailing, of course. |

My great great great grand father was named Richard Inge, M.D. He
was born in Granville, County in 1790. He built a home in Townsville
in 1803 named "Idlewild" and my great great grandfather, William
Bullock Inge was born there in 1815. Dr Richard was married to
Elizabeth Bullock ( a descendent of Richard Bullock born there in
1754 I think) on Nutbush Creek at Bullock Crossroads in Granville
County.
Do any of these houses still exist? I plan to visit this friday!
Where do I start? The entire Dr Richard Inge Clan (including his
father, Richard b. 1754) moved to Alabama and are all still here. We
have pictures and info on them all.

My gg grandmother was Molly Blount married to Enoch Hunsucker.

was born abt 1781.

Family says that Molly had ggg uncles
that were William Blount and Willie Blount, prominent politicians.
Her gggg grandparents would be Jacob Blount and Salter Baker.

I know that Isaac Blount was born in North Carolina and removed

I noticed a Thomas Woodlief on your list and a Harriet Woodlief.
Could this have been between 1845 and 1850?
There are a couple of possibilities. Thomas Woodlief of Granville
County,N.C. early 1800's was the father to my g-g grandfather
Devereaux J. Woodlief and Thomas C. Woodlief.
Devereaux was married to a Harriet Jane Reynolds and they had a
daughter Harriet Modeste Woodlief. Harriet Jane died when Harriet
Modeste was only 2 years old in 1845. Devereaux and Thomas could
have taken Harriet Modeste to live with their family in N.C. or
perhaps just for a visit.
which could have been for a year or so. I have been looking for
Harriet Modeste after her mother died, until she married my
g-grandfather, William August Driskill, in Grimes County,Tx. 1867. I
did find a Henriette Woodlief in the Ursline Acadmey in New Orleans,
La. in 1856. If you have any information I would appreciate hearing

I would like to locate the Inscore families that lived in Cedar

shows up in the 1870 census Wake Co., North Carolina with Darling
Inscore living with him. Darling, his brothers Joseph, Henry,
Benjamin and Richard are all living in Hays Co., Texas in 1880 with
Henry Benjamin and Richard being adopted by William and Eliza
Ferrill. The Inscore children range in date of birth from 1858 to
1870 all in North Carolina. I do not know the husband Inscore of

In the NC 1790 census there are two Tims men listed. Amos and
Hollice Tims.
They were in the Hillsborough District, Granville County, NC, Knap
of Leeds District. This is what the index book had.
Now I thought this was strange because Hollice Timms was listed in
Chester SC.
So I decided to take a look at the actual census records for
Granville County. Guess what? It wasn't on the census roll. I went
back and looked at the index book and it stated that these names
(Granville NC) were taken from Tax rolls.Did something happened to
their census records for that year?
I would like any information that can help me with the Tims family.

i am looking for the parents, siblings and history of a
Chapman/Chapmen family. The woman in question is Mary E. Chapman.
The "e" is for Ellen, I think and the spelling of her last name
could be Chapmen. She was born in TN 1828 but censuses state her
parents born in NC. I have no info about her parents or siblings.
She married Thomas Barnet Allison in 1851 and lived out her days in
Bedford county TN until her death in 1904. She is buried in TN. Her
husband has links to Granville County NC through Robert Allison,
Scottish immigrant, married to Sarah Ogilvie (of Granville county
NC).
Please contact me if you have any information on this family.

Found the below information about the will of William Bailey
stating that William and Jeremiah Bailey are his heirs.
I am researching Philip Bailey b. 1760-1770 who is found in the 1818
Twiggs County, Ga. Tax Digest living next to William Bailey. The
archivist at Ga. Archives who furnished with this the Tax Digest
advised that she believes William and Philip were related.
Philip moved to Houston County, Ga. which adjoins Twiggs County in
the late 1820's and to Randolph County, Ga. in the late 1830's.
In Randolph County Early Deeds I find, "Bryant Whitfield, William
Bailey and Jeremiah Bailey to Richard Davis, etc. Jan. 10, 1834/July
12, 1834"
Philip had a daughter Lovecey (spelled several ways) who listed her
place of birth as NC in two censuses. No record of Philip or Lovecey
in NC I can find.
Wondering if the above William and Jeremiah could be the same as
mentioned in William Bailey's will or in some way related to them.

I have a question, hope someone can help. I am NEW to this sort
of thing! I was looking at the Tax Lists for 1755, and I am confused
about one thing.... what do the numbers mean beside a name? Like:
John Doe, 1-0-1 ???
Also, do you happen to have any information about when the Bledsoe's
first came to America?
I located a George Bledsoe born in 1630, in Bedforshire England
(while doing an AOL search) and I think my relatives descended from
him. Not sure tho.
I saw the names George, William, and Sarah Bledsoe on the 1755 tax
list, and I am wondering if they are the children of William E.
Bledsoe (born and died in VA) and his two wives, Anne (maiden name
unknown) and Elizabeth Mumford.
I am trying to research my roots on my grandmothers side, but I keep
running into brick walls and confusing myself even more! Can anyone
help please???? Thanks.

Parish / Parrish
|
|
Comments: |
I am seeking information on the Parish / Parrish family of the
Granville county area. I am particularly interested in ELONOR PARISH
who is shown on the 1800 Person county census. He is the only Parish
listed on that census, so I am now checking surrounding counties. I
was very excited to find what appears to be more than one family in
Granville county.
Elonor Parish was born between 1770 and 1774 and married about 1790.
In the 1800 census, he is listed with his wife as 26-45, one
daughter (possibly named Sarah)10-16, and two sons (Wyatt/Wiott born
about 1795 and Hewel/Huel born 1798). I believe that Elonor left NC
and came to Dickson county, TN with his two oldest sons in 1814
(where the name is spelled Eleanor). I believe that he died in Pope
county, AR (where his name was spelled Eliner) sometime between 1840
and 1850.
Any assistance in locating the siblings and parents of Elonor Parish
or his wife's name and family is greatly appreciated.

Parish / Parrish
|
|
Comments: |
I am seeking information on the Parish / Parrish family of the
Granville and Person county area. In the 1800 census for Person
county is listed "Elonor Parish". In 1800 he is listed as "Eleanor
Parrish" as a witness on a deed in Person county. He shows up in
Dickson county TN in 1814 with Huel and Wyatt Parrish and purchases
land. They are then listed on the 1820 census. It is possible that
he then moved on to Pope County, AR and is listed in the 1840 census
there as "Eliner Parish".
Any information on this family is appreciated.

I am seeking any additional information that you can provide
about the parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million.
============================================================
Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760-1765. His son, Elias,
said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not
substantiated). He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around
1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford
County, North Carolina
. In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was at the Licks in
Scioto County, Ohio. Pleasant was in GreenupCounty, Kentucky in 1820
and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830. He did not appear in the 1840
census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant
(Plesent) WEBB and Unknown
had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788),
Thomas Hanley WEBB (1795), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799),
William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally)WEBB (1809),

A Chara
I note from the January 14, 1860, Greensboro Times that a Mary H.
Denny, died aged 30 on 23 Dec 1859 and that she had "joined the
Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, Va., in 1843, under the ministry
of her brother, Rev. Daniel G. Doak"
I am interested in any details which may be available as to the
parentage, also marriage & children (if any) of Rev Daniel G Doak
who I see was pastor of the Geneva Church, Granville, in 1837.
Not my direct line of Doaks, btw - that runs through the John Doak
who may well have been Daniel G's grandfather - or perhaps even
great-grandfather - and then at least three James Wilson Doaks ;-)

Any info - however trivial - would be most welcome

My fourth great grandfather was James W. Key who married Mary
Daniel in Granville Co. in Nov. of 1792. James was the son of Martin
Key Sr. from Albemarle Co., VA. James moved his family to KY.
Several sources have stated that he moved to Henderson County, KY in
1810, but he does not appear on the Henderson Co., KY tax list until
1814. Are there tax records for Granville County available that
could tell me when James Key was first in Granville County and when
was the last year he was on the tax list there? I would especially
like to know if he was on the Granville County tax list for the
years 1810 through 1813.

Need any information on George Nicholson. Sold land to brother
Absalom Nicholson in 1772 and 1777. Appears in 1784, 1790 and 1800
censuses. Do not know children, but
1800 census lists him with 1-male 16-25, and 1-female 16-25. I have
not found any other Nicholsons in the three censuses for Granville.
There are only 4 marriages of Nicholsons for the period:
Pope, Jane - Nicholson, George Jr. - 18 May 1775
Knott, Elizabeth - Nicholson, Adkin - 07 Nov 1797
Wortham, Polly - Nicholson, Louis - 18 Jul 1806
Adams, Lucy - Nicholson, Robert - 19 Nov 1808
I am trying to determine if any of these are his children, and if he
is George Nicholson, son of George Nicholson of

them: Fannie I, Thomas N, Frank O, Barron V, Crawfor B, Alonzo M &
James Lewis. They can all be found with their mother Marion P Mars
and her husband Leo Mars on pp 49-50 of the 1880 NC census of
Granville county, Henderson township. Victor G Lewis is our ancestor
and he was given to Leo Mars' sister to raise but he never knew he
had any brothers and sisters. Do you know what happened to these
children? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking for information re: Leo & Marion Mars and her children
all with the last name of Lewis on the 1880 census. Victor Green
Lewis is our gggrandfather. His father was Thomas Newton Lewis and
he either died or divorced his wife (who became Mrs. Mars) abt
1878-9. They can all be found on PP 49-50 of the 1880 census of
Henderson in Granville Co., NC Do you have any information on any of
the members of this family? I believe they gave all of Lewis was
given to Leo Mars' sister Mattie Tye nee Mars but I do not think any
of the children had any idea what happened to the others. I do not
believe Victor G. had any idea he had a sister and 6 brothers. Any
information you can give me is greatly appreciated.

I'm asking about James Taylor in the federal censuses of
Granville Co. from 1790-1820, in "Unknown Townships". The main
questions are:
(1) Was he married to a Nancy Ann Owen?
(2) Did he or his children migrate to Tennessee about 1800-1810?
(3) Did he have a child named Michael, born about 1787-1789?
I have found "James Taylor" listings as follows: 1800 -- Roll
M32_31, pg. 544; 1820 -- Roll M33_85, pg. 12. I understand the 1790
census of Granville is lost.

His father was HEZEKIAH RICE, and I understand there were three
Hezekiah Rice's in the county at the time. However, I doubt more
than one had a child named Othniel.
Do you have access to will and estate records for Oct 1796, when I
am told that 'my' Hezekiah's will was probated? I am hoping his
children are listed.... How can I get a copy of it?
Any other source you know of that straightens out the tres-Hezekiah

I am tring to locate the parents of Thomas Philpot Bryant.
Birth: Sept, 23 1812, Granville County NC
Married: Ann Coleman Townsend October 8, 1835 (Person County? )
Died: Oct 2, 1874 in Kemper county MS.
My current theory is that his parents were:
Samuel Bryant
Birth: 1733, Granville NC
Married: Mary Philpot Aug 20, 1798 in Granville NC
Died: 1830 Granville NC.
Father: Samuel Bryant? (B: 1753 in Granville NC)
Mary Philpot Bryant
Birth: 1777 Granville NC
Died: Date Unknown in Graville NC
Thomas Philpot was either Mary Philpot Bryant's father or brother.
LDS lists him as her father but they have him born in 1773
while she was born in 1777. Hince I think he's a brother.
William Philpot (B:1740) and Milly Philpot (B:1744)
may have been Thomas and Mary Philpot's parents but I have
no proof of this.
Thomas Philpot Bryant and Ann Coleman Townsend Bryant
had moved to Greene County AL by at least 1837 because
thier first child (William Philpot Bryan) was born there.
Thomas and Ann Bryant moved to Sumpter County AL
and then to Kemper County MS by 1845 and both died there.
Anybody out there doing any research on the Bryant - Philpot
connection in Granville County NC? I'd be glad to swap
information and leads with anyone researching either line.
Any help is deeply appreciated because I'm really stumped.
Thanks,
Hugh Bryan

Hello, I am researching the Mitchell family who have the
given names Thomas A, Matthew and Thomas J.Mitchell and
Matthew F. Mitchell. Matthew who married a Nancy Freeman.
I suspect that Matthew and Thomas J. were brothers. The
Thomas A and Matthew were of the previous generation, Thomas A.
being Father and Matthew perhaps their Uncle.
The naming is confusing to say the least, If you have a
THOMAS or MATTHEW MITCHELL any information or clues would
truly be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Looking for ancestors of my g grandfather, John SIMMONS, b. 1814,
poss. in Middle TN. I've recently learned, through a bio written
several years ago by the descendants of one of John's grandsons,
that the SIMMONS ancestors came from Oxford, Granville Co., N.C.
Since John was said to have been born in Middle TN, I'm assuming
that his family (father born in N.C., according to John's 1880
census data) came to TN prior to 1814. John SIMMONS had settled in
Weakley Co., TN (West TN) between 1830 and 1840. Would appreciate

abt. 1795 possibly from the Southampton County, Va. There is a
marriage 1829 between a Lydia Baisden and Edwin Beale. This could be
them. Their son Josiah William Beale was born abt.1829.They are
first found in Granville county NC in the 1830 census records. Need
help documenting if this Lydia Baisden is our Lydia who married
Edwin beale. I understand Lydia Baisden was a Johnson who married

Interested in any info on the West Harris and Ethelred Harris
families who moved to Edgecombe Co from Isle of Wight Co VA and
later to Anson. They were in Bute and Halifax. They ended up in
Montgomery Co. West Harris was supposed to be one of the
commissioners negotiating with Edgecombe for the formation of
Granville Co. The first court meeting in Granville Co was supposed
to be in the home of one of his Jones cousins. His son Ethelred
ended up in Bute at the Co division. Both signed the petition for
the formation of Montgomery Co.I really need documented proof that
Ethelred was son of West Harris and proof of Ethelred's wife or
wives and children: Deeds , wills, Bible records, marriage records ,
Court records or any such documents pertaining to these people would
be greatly appreciated.

next researcher.
Please let us know what you would like to see here. If you are aware
of any sources we should include, we will make every attempt to get
