Respond to:Don Williams
Posted On:Wednesday, June 3, 1998 at 18:14
I was told that perhaps my SEARS is from Granville, NC. If not, then I am
sorry to try and get a query on this list. What I have is an Elizabeth
SEARS, who married a John JACOBS. I think Elizabeth's father was John, but
every John Sears that I find, with a Nancy Brock as spouse, does not have
an Elizabeth who married a Jacobs. I don't have any dates of any of this.
The only date I have is a daughter, Malinda, b. 4 March 1825 in KY who
married into my line with John C. Williams 4 Feb. 1847 in St. Clair Co.,
MO and she died 9 March 1903 in Knob Lick, St. Francois Co., MO. This is
it. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated, because I am the
proverbial "stone wall" on this one.

I am a history professor at Georgia State University. I am writing a
biography of 19th century reformer Mary Ashton Rice Livermore (1820-1905).
According to Livermore's autobiography, at age 18, she took a job as
teacher to children of the Henderson family who probably lived in
Granville County. Archibald and Ann Henderson may have been her employers.
Their marriage and death dates, location, and wealth match Livermore's
description. Can anyone tell me anything about these Hendersons beyond
what I have learned from census? Can anyone tell me if they employed a
teacher named Mary Ashton Rice? Many thanks. W. Venet

Trying to find information on: ARTHUR FRAZER, b. 4/9/1764 in Bertie Co.
Was in NC census of 1790. Moved to Granville Co. NC then to Lincoln Co. GA
about 1800. Will made on 7/14/1829 in Wilkes Co. GA. Died around 1830. Had
two wives, first was Elizabeth Knott, daughter of John Knott of Granville
Co.; second was Mary Goodman, married on 2/6/1799 in Granville Co. Had 16
children in all. This is the earliest Frazer we have traced back. WILLIAM
FRAZER & DANIEL FRAZER. Supposedly both are from Bertie Co. William moved
to Granville Co. Was in the 1790 census. He had 3 wives, first we don't
know; second was Ann; third was Mary. Had a total of 12 children. Died
around 1795. There is mention of Daniel, Bertie Co. Deed records of 1728.
We think that William was possibly Daniel's son and that perhaps Arthur
was William's son. Family moved from Bertie Co. to Granville Co. in NC,
then to Lincoln Co./Wilkes Co. GA. Then to AL. Our mother is Anniebell
Frazier (she's 84 now). Her father was George Edgar Frazier, Sr. He worked
for the power company and the story is that they put an "i" in his name
and he never changed it. His brothers kept the Frazer spelling. His father
was John Allen Frazer. His father was Allen Frazer who was married to
Matilda Wright (daughter of Nathan Wright). Allen Frazer was the son of
Arthur.

Margaret Twitey JONES "Peggy", is the daughter of William JONES
(1723-1804) of Granville Co., NC. Margaret JONES married in 1783 William
Turner LAWRENCE also found in the records as Turner LAWRENCE. William
Turner LAWRENCE is the son of William & Deborah Lawrence of Granville and
a brother to Abraham LAWRENCE who also married into the JONES family. I
believe that William Turner & Margaret (JONES) LAWRENCE had issue: Peggy

half sister-in-law, Jane (Wade) Gwin named her in a deed of gift in Person

Thomas Davis married Elizabeth Jenkins 1809 in Warren Co, NC and moved to
property between Bullock and Stovall in Granville Co, NC ca 1842 : What
connection did this family have with the Eagle Tavern in Williamsboro,
present day Vance Co. Their son William Davis married Martha Hicks and
named a son Robert Alexander Davis. Robert Alexander Jenkins married a
Hicks, sister of the afore mentioned Martha Hicks. I saw this information
in a book at the Vance co library in Henderson. This Robert Alexander
Jenkins also owned a house in Williamsboro, according to the book Zeb's
Black Baby. What relationship Hicks/Jenkins/Davis. Two of Thomas's
daughters married men named Jenkins: Samuel Jenkins moved to Hays Co, TX
along with a Davis brother in law; and James L Jenkins, who bought the
original Davis Someplace in Granville co, nc moved on to Smith Co, TN. It
does not appear there is any relationship between Elizabeth, James or
Samuel Jenkins. Elizabeth is NOT the daughter of Wilson Jenkins of this
area. Another son of Thomas Davis, Robert Jenkins Davis, had a son, Robert
Thomas Davis, who 'went West' ca 1880 at age 20-nothing was ever heard
from him again. Some tax lists before 1850 list Robert Jenkins Davis and
William as being in the Williamsboro tax list district, they were young
men probably sent to work relatives farms.
