The
original two sets of the following lists are in the N.C. Archives in
Raleigh, N.C. They give a
useful look at the voting age males living in that area in August of
1845.
I
have compared the writing on the two sets to come up with the following
list. Anyone wanting a
lesson in penmanship of the era as well as the inaccuracies of lists
could hardly do better than comparing the similarities and differences
between these two lists purporting to contain the same numbered
information.
As
the handwriting is often difficult to decipher and as the lists are not
mirror images of each other, I caution the reader that this summary is
imperfect. I would enjoy
hearing any corrections. |
