Will & Estate of Mrs. Hannah Thomas of Bute Co., North Carolina 1766

In the name of God, Amen. I, Hannah Thomas of Bute county in the province of North Carolina being blessed in abundant mercy and goodness of God tho weak in body yet of a sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it may be issued as such by all.

Imprimis, I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my master beseeching his most acceptance of it.

Imprimis, I give my body to the earth from whence it was taken in full assurance of its Resurrection from th____ at the last day as for my burial I desire it may be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named who I doubt ___ will have it well performed.

Item I give and bequeath to my son Nathan Thomas to him and his heirs forever, one Negro wench named __, and her increase forever also one Negro boy named Davy to him and his heirs forever.

Item, I give to my daughter Agness Green, and her heirs forever, one Negro boy Jim.

Item, I give to my daughter Sarah Winston, one Negro girl Dice, to her and her heirs forever, with her increase.

Item, I give to my son John Giles Thomas, to him and his heirs forever, one Negro boy named Tall.

Item, I give and bequeath to my son Nathan Thomas, and his heirs forever, with all her increase hereafter, one Negro girl named Bess.

Item, I give my son Nathan Thomas all my hogs, to him and his heirs forever.

Item, I give, bequeath and dispose of the rest and residue of my estate such as consists of seven cattle, one roan mare, feather bed and furniture, to be equally divided between my children now alive.

And all the rest and residue of my estate in North Carolina, I give to my son Nathan Thomas and his heirs forever. And do appoint my sons Nathan Thomas and John Giles Thomas, Executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the first day
of January in the year of our Lord 1766.

recorded.

Inventory of the Estate of HANNAH THOMAS, deceased

Personal property includes:
Six Negro slaves as legacies to four of her children.

Horse & roan mare, feather bed & furniture, 7 head of cattle to be equally divided between six of her children.

As to the rest of her estate left to her son Nathan Thomas, viz, chest, lock and key, 3 iron pots, skillet, frying pan, pair fire tongs & shovel, side saddle and bridle, saddle cloth, 2 pewter basins, dish, 3 spoons, tea pot, 3 cups and saucers, 4 tin water cups, box iron, bell & collar, Bible, testament, sermon book, and some other old books, 29 head of hogs, Indian corn, wheat, 2 iron wedges, 2 tubs, 2 pails, piggin, looking glass, tumbler, 9 bottles, tickler, salt, table, 3 old chairs, woolen wheel & cards, flax wheel & flax break & hackle, pair man's shoes, feather bed, small quantity of leather, small gilt trunk, small sugar box, small punch bowl.

Debts collected amount to 4 pounds 8 shillings 1& 1/2 pence.

True account of all the property that has come into my hands as Executor, this 28th day of April 1766.

NOTES: 
Sarah (Thomas) Winston was the widow of Isaac Winston, Jr. born in Hanover Co., Va & died in 1761 in Granville Co., N.C.

Sarah Thomas & Isaac Winston, Jr., were married & living in Hanover Co, Va. bef 1734 when they joined in a deed. Presume that Mrs. Hannah ( ) Thomas was also from Hanover or a nearby county.
