Buried:  Ricks-Culpepper-Whitley-Bell Graveyard, Oak Level Twp., Oak Level Road, Nash County, NC- initially he was buried on his farm in Stony Creek Township, Nash County, NC; his remains were reinterned, along with those of his second wife LULA ROSE BELL and a son JAMES THOMAS BELL in 1993 through the efforts of his grandson RAYMOND BELL, 4080 Oak Level Road, Rocky Mt., NC

HIS FATHER:  JAMES HENRY BELL, SR. [1825 – 24 May 1864]. He was wounded in his right arm in the afternoon on 3 May 1864 in the Battle of the Wilderness, died twenty one days later.  He is buried in the Old Confederate Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA near the hospital in which died].

HIS MOTHER;  LUCINDA EVANS [1829 – 19 JANUARY 1906]. She was born in Edgecombe County, NC and is buried in the cemetery for the town of Black Creek, Wilson County, NC.  In the Census of 1900 she is living on a farm on Stantonsburg Road, Black Creek Twp. in Wilson County, NC with her son JAMES HENRY BELL, JR.

[According to the death certificate for LULA ROSE BELL the following information is given by JOHN LINDSEY BELL, JR., Stony Creek Twp., Nash County, NC. She was born in Wilson County, NC on February 1, 1873 and died in Stony Creek Township, Nash County, NC on February 8, 1955.   Her father was WILLIAM T. ROSE and her mother was ELIZA SIMPSON.  Her remains were prepared for burial by Johnson Funeral Home, Rocky Mt., NC and the attending doctor, from 1952 until her death, was Dr. Whitley of Rocky Mount, NC.]

REVEREND JOE HOCUTT was born in Wake County and raised in Johnston County.  His first wife IDA BELL HARPER was raised two miles east of Nashville on a farm south of what became Highway 64.  JOE and Ida BELL HARPER were married ca. 1897.  In August, 1916, IDA HARPER HOCUTT died in childbirth.  JOE HOCUTT’S second wife was IDA HILLIARD of Middlesex, Nash County, NC.  Both JOE and IDA HARPER HOCUTT are buried in Nash County, NC.
