SOURCE: BRANSON’S NORTH CAROLINA AGRICULTURAL ALMANAC: FOR THE YEAR OF OUR LORD, 1890, AND, UNTIL THE 4TH OF JULY, THE 114TH YEAR OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE [Raleigh, NC: Levi Branson, Publisher, c. 1890]:
In the absence of the United States Census for 1890, it burned in Washington, DC, the information provided by these various business directories is, at once, an unique and important source of new knowledge on our Nash County kin. Please add information on your kin in 1890 so that we fill this void in the history of our families. Also, readers should exercise a little caution in reading Branson’s Business Directories. In consecutive years, he often seems to have just repeated previously provided information.
