The following lists African American surnames, family heads and occasional individuals working for white employers who appear in the United States Census of 1870 in Middleton Township of Nash County, North Carolina. The sequence of information is: [1] family number; [2] surname; [3] age; [4] gender and [5] race. Consecutive individuals listed under a single family number indicates someone of a different name living in the same household. On racial identification all people listed are African Americans unless otherwise indicated. Those family researchers working in the census records for Nash County please check my work and send me your corrections. My goal in this research is to provide researchers enough information on the various families so that they will know where to go for more complete research on their families. Middleton Township is the first one that I have researched. I plan to continue this work until all townships are completed.
