***"Alexander C. Currie was for many years Clerk of Superior Court for Moore
County.  His grand children now have an old account book in which is a
memorandum showing that in the year 1833, Andrew Johnson, then a tailor,
stopped in Carthage for a month and made three suits of clothes, one for
Duncan Murchison, one for Benjamin Person and one for John B. Kelly.  Mr
Currie leased the store room the the young tailor, who was destined to
become President of the Uni ted States."(John Bethune Currie as

He was one of the founding trustees of The Carthage Male and Female
Academies, incorporated in 1844 by the General Assembly of North
Carolina, along with John B. Kelly, Charles Chalmers, John Richardson and
Samuel Paisley.  The first building was a log structure located at Flint
Hill and was headed by the Rev. A.C. McNeill, appointed by the
Fayetteville Presbytery to be in charge of educational and evangelical
work within it's borders. (Moore County News from an article written by
Ruth Harris Tyson,  a former teacher at Carthage School)
It is noted by Comelia Holmes that Alexander must have been running a
hotel in Carthage at the time of the 1850 census as there were no less
than twenty-four persons listed at his residence.

At 2:30 pm married F.T. Currie and Miss Eugenia Davis(sent to me by Jim Kelly)

Fuller was apparently an educated man.  According to accounts given me
from B illy Jackson,son of Pauline Currie, who knew him, He taught school
for awhile in Reaford, NC.  He worked as a Water Treatment Plant
engineer, He was Chief of Police for the town of Pinehurst and also
Postmaster for Pinehurst, from which he retired. He was also a founding
member of Pinehurst Community Presby terian Church. Billy also thinks he
received the first air letter delivered t o the area.

Reggie attended the University of North Carolina, studying plumbing,
heating, air conditioning and steam fitting, until he enlisted in the
Navy at the sta rt of WW11.  After the war he returned to Pinehurst, NC
where he went to work as a plumber for O'Callahans Plumbing Co.  He then
went to work in civil ser vice at Fort Bragg,  NC as a steam fitter.  In
about 1966 he retired with 100 % medical and 100% disability from the
Veterans Administration.
