Second Hold-up Within Past Week

MAIDEN -- The second daring hold-up of the week happened Saturday night when Grover C. Taylor, clerk of Carpenter's Incorporated started to enter his home from work about 10 o'clock. Two unidentified boys ordered Mr. Taylor at the point of a gun to halt and robbed him of $40, a pair of gloves, a pocket knife, and keys, according to information received from Chief of Police W. L. Strutt. The local police force have several clues, but as yet no arrests have been made.

The first hold-up of the week happened last Sunday night when night policeman Buff, Robert Icard, and Dean Carpenter were held-up and robbed by Wade Blackburn, Tom Parsons, outlaws of Wilkes county, and Helen Beard of Maiden. Icard accompanied by Buff and Carpenter was forced to drive the trio to Hickory at the point of a gun where a hosiery mill night watchman was forced to call a taxicab. The taxi driver was relieved of $30 and his cab. The bandits were arrested in Welch, West Virginia, on Monday night and have been returned to this county and held without bail for trial in Recorder's Court this week on charges of kidnaping and robbery.
