Found Not Guilty by Jury.

Fred Winkler, confessed thief participating in the Maiden bank robbery several months ago, was sentenced to the state prison in Raleigh to not less than eight years and not more than ten years by Judge T. B. Finley after the defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge. Sentence was handed down about 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. This sentence he is serving is to run concurrent with a sentence he is serving for second-degree murder.

Eugene Beard, Maiden man and implicated by Winkler's confession as one of the thieves robbing the bank, was sentenced to not less than five years and not more than seven years by Judge Finley immediately following Winkler's sentence. He plead guilty.

Fred Klutz, also implicated by Winkler's confession, was sentenced to not less than four years and not more than six years. He also plead guilty. However, Klutz, due to the illness in his family, will be given a 20-day respite if he can post a $2000 bond.

Edgar Mauney, son of the Maiden bank president and inplicated by Winkler's confession, was found not guilty by the jury. Spencer was also freed by the jury.
