MAIDEN HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND under the direction of Mrs. Pat Hakos.

"And The Beat Goes On"
Maiden High School Band

Remarkable is the word for the progress made by the Maiden High School Band in so short a time. The band is just over a year old and the performances they have given at the football games this year would make any band proud. Many of us do not realize the amount of work that goes into a half-time show and maybe as the band goes through its formations and the crowd applauds, the members can forget the 10 or 12 hours of hard work they have put in during the week.

Mrs. Pat Harkos started directing the Maiden High School Band a year ago and these students came from nothing to a marching band that every citizen of Maiden should be proud to have around. Mrs. Hakos' patience and faithfulness is certainly to be admired and commended. Mrs. Dale Wilkinson has spent many hours working with the 8th grade members teaching them notes and how to count time.

At the beginning of the year the band consisted of only high school students. On September 15, eleven 8th graders received their instruments and began learning to play. They now are able to perform with the band. Last week eleven 7th grade students got instruments and are going twice a week to the high school for practice.

Majorettes are a necessity to every band and Maiden has six very lovely ladies who certainly add a lot to the band's performances. They are: Donna Drum, Melanie Rabb, Vickie Carrigan, Terry Angel, Darlene Clark, and Kathy Drum.

The members of the band are:
Ricky Lawing, Allyson Rose, Eddie Rose, Suzette Wilkinson, Gary Jarron, Mattie Walton, Mitch Campbell, Steve Ward, Ronnie Parker, Zelotes Williams, Gil Kirkman, Loretta Ramseur, Wes Bobbitt, Debbie Sowell, Tracy Cline, Robin Bolick, James Lyda, Robin Canipe, Rita Clark, Joan Cresimore, Sherry McCall, Henry Armstrong, Rita Estep, Tony Ikard, Sharon Lynch, Dora Clemon, Tina Sipe, Becky Hunt, Susan Coulter, and Cheryl Hoyle.

Citizens of Maiden -- Stand up and be counted. Take time out to tell the band members how much you appreciate their fine music at the football games. You know, not every school can have a number one football team and a number one band! Let's support our band just as much as we support the Blue Devils.
