They lived in the town of Maiden. They had land out side of town and grew Sweet potatoes, Corn, Cotton and sold sweet potato slips , they were shipped all over the country. They lived in the old Beard House. when they got married.

Charles Worked on the Railroad as a cook, He was a very good cook,

He also helped build Broughton Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina

His land was where Carolina Mills is today.

He also ran the Red Bird Cafe across from the Funeral Home in Maiden, It was a tin building. Later he worked for Dod Finger in the grocery store.
