CHALLIE S. BEAL MAIDEN - Challie Bain Sherrill Beal, 89, of Leonard Avenue, Newton, formerly of East Maiden Road, died June 12, 2001, at the Abernethy Center. Born Sept. 21, 1911, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Challie Bain Sherrill and Callie Epsie Brotherton Sherrill Cline. A member of Lawings Chapel Baptist Church, she retired from J.P. Stevens textiles and worked at American Efird. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Beal; a son, Dayton Beal; a sister, Evelyn “Chuck” Campbell; and a stepfather, Ernest Otha Cline. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerrell A. and Laura Beal of Lincolnton and Jimmie R. and Tina Beal of Newton; a daughter, Callie Ima Jean Beal of Maiden; seven sisters, Lois Snipes, Juanita “Neat” Drum, Jeannette “Net” Black and Josephine “Jo” Little of Newton, Avis “Doll” Little of Claremont, Vera “Bunk” Caldwell of Maiden and Helen Campbell of Denver, N.C.; four grandchildren, Patti Beal and Chandra Beal Holbrooks of Maiden, Myron Beal of Lincolnton and Nicole Beal of Newton; and a great-grandchild, Grace Holbrooks of Maiden. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Foyd Bennett at 5 p.m. today at her church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ernest Snipes, Larry Drum, Kenny Campbell, Gregory Campbell, Myron Beal and Donald Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacel Snipes, Tracy Drum and Joel Campbell.
