Blaine Abernathy (June 11, 1922 - August 4, 2006) Gorman Blaine Abernathy, age 84, of East Maiden Road passed away Friday, August 4, 2006 at his residence. Born June 11, 1922 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Gorman Blaine Abernathy, Sr. and the late Etra Parker Abernathy. He was a member of Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden. Mr. Abernathy was employed by Vermont American for 26 years as a supervisor in the Tap and Dye Department. In addition to his parents, a brother, William Russell "Bill" Abernathy and a grandson, Matthew Blain Smith preceded him in death. Survivors include: His Wife: Jynell W. Abernathy of the home. 1 Daughter: Linda Abernathy-Hughes and husband, Trent Hughes of Maiden. 2 Sisters: Helen Huffman of Vale and Faye Lail of Maiden. 1 Sister-In-Law: Mitzie Abernathy of Hickory. 1 Grandson: Nathaniel Dickson of Maiden. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 6, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden with the Rev. Dr. Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites provided by American Legion Post 16 of Newton. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 6, 2006 from 3:00 ? 3:45 p.m. at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden, prior to the service.
