Obituary of Robert Frank Joyce, Sr.

LEE TOBACCONIST ROBERT JOYCE, SR. SUCCUMBS AT 63

Sanford -- Robert Frank Joyce, Sr., prominent Sanford tobacconist, died Monday at Lee County Hospital, following an illness of several days.  He  was 65.
 

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church of Sanford by the Rev. Don Carson, pastor.  Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery.  The body will remain at Miller Funeral home until taken to the church an hour before service.
 

Mr. Joyce was born in Stoneville, the son of the late Robert and Alice Garrett Joyce.  He was associated with Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. as a buyer for several years.  When the Sanford Tobacco Co. was organized in 1946 he became its president and general manager.  He lived in Sanford for a number of years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Minnie Ball; two sons Frank Joyce, Jr. and Bill Joyce of Sanford; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Windley Jr. of Newberry, SC and Mrs. C. H. Copeland, of Roanoke, VA; one brother Edwin Joyce of Walnut Cover; two sisters, Mrs. G. C. Bryant of Rich Square and Miss Ada Joyce of Scotland Neck; and nine grandchildren.
