In the name of God Amen I Eli West of the County of Jones being very sick & weak in body but of sound mind and perfect memory Do make this my last will and testament in manner & form following

First & chief of all I recommend my soul to the mercy of Allmighty God hoping for the salvashion there of through the mercy alone of my blessed Savour Jesus Christ my body I desire to be decently burried at the discretion of my Executors here after named and as for such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to Bless me with I dispose of them as follows. It is my will & desire that all my just debts shall be first paid and funeral expenses __?

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Kair West fifty pounds to be raised out of my Estate and the value of a negroe fellow by the name of Burrey at the valuation when Doctor Loomis took his wife s part of the Estate and the stock & household furniture that my wife have in her possession I give her one third part to her & heirs & assign forever

Item I give unto my beloved Daughter Chasty Ward twelve spanish milled dollars to be converted to the sole use of makin table spoons to her & her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth West twelve spanish milled dollars to coverted to the sole use of table spoons to her & her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Phebe West twelve spanish milled dollars to be converted to the sole of making table spoons to her & her heirs and assigns forever.

Item I give & bequeath unto my nephew Eli West who now lives with me sixty pounds to be put at interest for the benefit of his schooling to be drawn occasionally to him & his heirs and assigns forever

Item It is my will & desire that the following negroes be sold namely Old Jude Old Sam & little Sam & Old fellor to be sold for nine months credit by my executors hereafter named Also it is my will & desire that all my houshold & kitchen furniture & plantation tools of every kind be sold by my Executors except what I have given away to my two youngest Daughters.

Item And all my stock of every kind except what I have given to my two youngest Daughters.

Item Also all my lands lying Onslow County to be to be sold by my Executors

& all warrants that is not laid or as much as my Executors shall think best

Item Also all my land lying in Carteret County to be sold by my Executors or as much more if my land that I have not heretofore away as my Executors shall see fit.  Also all my land lying in Cumberland in the state of Tenessee to be sold by my Executors

Item Also it is my will & desire that my two youngest Elizabeth & Phebe’s negroes & stocks to be kept on their plantations & rented all together from year to year as my Executors shall think best

Item I also give to my three Daughters Chasty Ward & Elizabeth & Phebe West all my right & title of marsh & land on Dudley Island in Carteret County to be equally among the three children to them & their heirs and asigns forever______________

Item I do hereby Authorize & Empower my Executors herein after named or either of them to make good Lawfull & Indefeasible Deeds & titles to all the Lands as well as other property which they shall sell & dispose of agreable to this my Last Will & testament above mentioned any Custom to the Contrary not with standing as it is the true intent and meaning hereof that they my said Executors or either of them should have full power & authority so to do.

Item I Conclude Constitute and appoint my beloved friends Frederick Harget, William T. Gardner Edward Starkey & Jonathon Kay Exeutors to this my last will & testament revoking all other wills by me at any time heretofore made & I do declare this only to be my last will In witnesseth I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 2nd of January 1797.

Then was the within last will & testament of Eli West Deceased proved in open Court by the oaths of Joseph Ill & Edward Starkey & ordered to be recorded At the same time Jonathan Kay & Edward Starkey (I did not get the last sentence)
