I Richard Sadler Senr of the County of Hyde and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, but in view of the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say first that my Executor (hereinafter named) shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives and pay all funeral expense, together with my just debts howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the first monies that may first come into his hands as a part and parcel of my estate.

Item 1st  I give and devise to my son Dempsey B. Sadler my negro boy Lewey also three hundred & fifty dollars.

Item 2nd  I give and devise to my Daughter Loudecea Gaskins a negro woman by the name of Clarisa and her daughter by the name of Kate and should she die without lawful issue living at the time of her death then my will is that said two slaves be equally divided between by three sons I also give her three hundred & fifty dollars.

Item 3rd  I give and devise to my son Richard Sadler three hundred and fifty dollars.  I also lend to my son Richard Sadler son Collatias C. Sadler one negro boy named John as long as both my sons Richard and Grandson Collatias shall live and if the said grandson should die first then my will is that said negro boy John be hired out for the benefit of my son Richard Sadler and when both my son Richard and grandson Collatias die then my will is for the said boy John to be equally divided between my children.

Item 4th  I give and devise to my son Benjamin Sadler the tract of land whereon I now live containing thirty two acres and half embracing the seven and half acres I bought of Ira C. Gaskins and his wife Loadecea on which the mill stands also the right to one half the millers house and lot wheron said house stands.

Item 5th  I will and direct that the ten acres of land I purchased of A. A. Watson shall be rented out by my Executor for three years after my death at the end of which time I wish him to sell said land on a credit of six months and as soon as said monies he collected for both rent and sale he shall divide the same equally and among all my children share and share alike.

An lastly I do herby constitute and appoint my son Dempsey B. Sadler my Executor to execute this my Last Will and Testament herby revoking and making utterly void all other Wills made by me.  In witness wherof I the said Richard Sadler senr do hereunto set my and hand and seal this the 27 day of July A.D. 1855 signed sealed and declared to be the Last Will & Testament of said Richard Sadler senr in our presence who in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses.

    Dempsey B. Sadler the Executor presented Last Will and Testament of Richard Sadler sr. decd. and was proven by the oath of David G. Sadler and David M. Watson.  Ordered to be recorded & filed.
