I Sarah R. Gibbs of the County of Hyde and State of North Carolina being of sound mind & memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my  Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First that my executor shall provided for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the monies that may first come into his hands as a part or parcel of my estate.

  1.  Item I give to my son Benj. F. Gibbs fifty dollars to him his heirs and assigns forever.

  2.  Item I give to my Daughter Dorcas J. Mann fifty dollars to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  3.  Item I give to my daughter Nancy E. Thompson fifty dollars to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  4.  Item I give to my Daughter Amanda A, Midyett fifty dollars to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  5.  Item I give and devise to my son James W. Gibbs one negro boy name Picket one bed and furniture to his his heirs and assigns forever.

  6.  Item I give and devise to my Daughter Sarah A. Gibbs Five hundred dollars one bed and furniture to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  7.  Item  I give and devise to my Daughter Mary M. Gibbs five hundred dollars one bed and furniture to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  8.  Item I give and devise to my Daughter Lavina M. Gibbs one negro man name Aaron Two hundred dollars one bed and furniture to her her heirs and assigns forever.

  9.  Item I give and devise to my son Augustus M. Gibbs one negro girl name Hannah one bed and furniture to him his heirs and assigns forever.

10.  Item I give to my Aunt Ann Watson one negro woman name Sarah her lifetime provided Sarah is willing to live with my Aunt and if not then on account of her age and for other causes, I do give her to my Daughter Sarah A. Gibbs to her her heirs and assigns forever.

11.  Item my will and desire is that all the residue of my estate if any after taking out the devises and legacies above mentioned shall be sold and the debts oweing to me be collected and if there should be a surplus over and above the payment of debts expenses and legacies that such surplus shall be equally divided and paid over to my two youngest children namely Levina M. Gibbs and Augustus M. Gibbs to them their heirs Executors Adm'rs. and assigns absolutely forever.

And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend my son Benj. F. Gibbs my lawful Executor to all intents and purposes to Execute this my Last Will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof hereby declaring and revoking utterly void all other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made.

In witness whereof I the said Sarah R. Gibbs do hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of March 1861.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Sarah R. Gibbs to be her Last Will and Testament in presence of us as witnesses thereto.

 Hyde County  )    May Term 1865
    A paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and testament of Sarah R. Gibbs is exhibited in open Court for probate by Benjamin F. Gibbs the Executor therein named and it is  thereupon proved by the oath of Benjamin B. Fulford one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and also that Henry C. Thompson the other subscribing witness is dead and by the oath of William G. Thompson that he is well acquainted with the hand writing of said Henry Thompson and that the name of Henry Thompson subscribed as a witness thereto is in his hand writing.  It is thereupon considered by the Court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the Last Will and Testament of Sarah R. Gibbs and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed.  And thereupon the said Benj. F. Gibbs Executors as aforesaid duly qualified as such by taking the oath required by law.
