September 15th 1851

In the name of God Amen.  I Hezekiah Farrow of the County of Hyde and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner & form following, to wit--

First:  That my Executrix, hereinafter named, shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts howsoever & to whomsoever owing out of the first money that may come into her hands as a part or parcel of my estate.

Item 2d:  I loan unto my beloved wife Ellen Farrow all of my estate both real and personal during her natural life or widowhood subject to the devises or bequeaths herein after made.

Item 3d:  I give and devise unto my son William Thomas Farrow Twenty two acres of land lying on the South side of Middle Creek road known by the named of the Cox land adjoining Arasmus Saunderson & others also Twenty eight acres lying in the Lake Swamp, land I bought of Benjamin R. Roper also Two acres of land at the fork of the road with my office on it and to go into actual possession of the same at the age of Twenty two years to him and his heirs forever.

Item 4th:  I give and devise unto my two sons Richard Donnel & Charles Frederick Farrow the balance of my real estate which I have not given to their brother William Thomas, to be equally divided between the two, at the death or marriage of their mother, to them and their heirs forever.

Item 5th:  It is my will that all my children remain at home with their mother & be educated and raised out of the proceeds of my estate.

Item 6th:  I give & bequeath to my three sons each of them one negro at the death or marriage of their mother to be equal in valuation in common with the balance of my negroes to them and their heirs forever.  I also give and bequeath to my six daughters Martha Ann, Mary Eleanor, Julian E., Almeder R., Margaret, Emmer and Cora Farrow after the death or marriage of their mother the balance of my negroes to be equally divided between them and to their heirs forever.

And lastly I nominate and constitute my beloved wife Ellen Farrow Executrix to this my Last Will and testament and constitute her Testamentary Guardian to my children hereby revoking all other wills made by me in witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.  The words interlined "the balance of my negroes) before signed.

    Then was the foregoing paper writing purported to be the Last Will and Testament of Hezekiah Farrow produced in Open Court by Ellen Farrow and proved to be the Last Will and testament of said Hezekiah Farrow according to law by the oath of Wm. H. Buffaloe one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and at the same time the said Ellen Farrow who is the Executrix therein named came into Court and qualified as such.  Let the Will & this certificate be recorded.
