In the name of God Amen, I Stephen Brooks, of the county of Hyde, state of north Carolina, being weak in body but of sound memory, blessed be God, do this day, fifteenth of July in the year of our lord, seventeen hundred and ninety-seven, make and publish this, my last will and testament, in manner following, that is to say, first I give to my son Isaack Brooks, one cow and calf, that to be all, also I give to my son, William Brooks, eighty-two acers of land joining of Thomas Brooks, one bed and furniture, one case of drawers, one puter Bason, one horse, also I give to my son, Stephen Brooks, one hundred and fifteen acers of land including a plantation on the north Side of Lake, one Negro woman and hir two children, one puter Bason, one bed and furniture, one Dozen of puter spoons and a half a dozen of silver Tea Spoons and twenty dollars to be raised out of my Estate six months after my death.

Also I give to my son, Jacob Brooks, one Negro man, one half dozen of puter plate, one family bibel, ten dollars.

Also I give to my daughter, Easter, besides what I have all ready give hir.  I desire that fifty pounds should be raised out of my property by my executors and remain in thir hands, that if she shold be Left a widow or in any sufering surkumstance, no Body to take Care of hir, then to be paid to hir at thir dis Crision and other ways to be equaly divided betwen my other five Children, that is to say, William and Stephen and Jacob and Charity and Sary.

Also I give to my daughter, Charity, one ovel table, one blue Chist, one puter Bason and two dishes.

Also to my daughter, Sary, I give thirty acers of land Joining of Baniester Midyett's and Jesse Midyett's south Lines, runing from the rode to the Creak, one Desk, one mare, one puter Bason and one dish.

And all the rest of my property to be equally devided between William Brooks, Charity Watson, Sary Midyett. I make and ordain William Brooks and Jesse Midyett my executors of this my will in trust for the intents and purposes of this my will contained in witness whereof I, the said Stephen Brooks, have to this my last will and testament, set my hand and seal the day and year above written, signed, sealed and delivered by the said Stephen Brooks as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who were present at the signing and sealing thereof.
