George Tilson Credle

Martha Etta Mae Cartwright


(Aug. 18, 1858 - Mar. 4, 1930)                          (Dec. 23, 1860 - Nov. 2, 1948)

George Tilson Credle was the son of George Veal Credle and Martha Ann McWilliams. Martha Etta May Cartwright Credle was the daughter of Albert Cartwright and Nancy Mace/Moss Jordan. (To view the gravestone of Nancy M. Jordan Cartwright check out Sandy Carawan's Hyde Co., NC Gravestones.) She married George Tilson Credle Dec. 24, 1878 in Hyde County. She died at Rose Bay, NC at the Credle family home. Miss Martha, as she was lovingly referred to in the Rose Bay community, resided until her death with her son, widower Albert Cartwright Credle, and his two sons, Sidney Arthur and Albert Bryce, until they moved away (Sidney to Norfolk, where he married Pauline Silverthorne) and Bryce into the US Navy during WW II and afterward married Virginia Jennette. The family home still stands on Rose Bay Fork to Fairfield and the junction of Highway 264 East. Sidney Arthur and Pauline Credle reside there at present. George Tilson and Martha Etta Cartwright Credle are both buried in the Credle-Williams Cemetery in Rose Bay.
