George P. Hamilton resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until through February, 1863. Reported absent without leave in July-August, 1863. Returned to duty on September 1, 1863. Present or accounted for through February 1865; however he was reported absent sick during most of that period.

Captured (2) / Wounded

Samuel Hamilton resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until captured at Fredericksburg, Virginia,, December 13, 1862. Returned to duty in January-February, 1863. Present or accounted for through February 18, 1864. Company records indicate he was captured near Washington, North Carolina, February 20, 1864, while absent on furlough; however, records of the Federal Provost marshal do not substantiate that report. Company records indicate that he failed to return to duty; however, North Carolina pension records indicate that he was wounded at Wilderness, Virginia, in 1863 and that he survived the war. Records of the Federal Provost Marshal dated December 1862 give his age as 20.

Samuel Hamilton was born in 1841m the son of Jordan Hamilton and Jane (___?___). He married in 1866 to Mary Frances Carawan and in 1887 to Mary Spencer. He applied for a Confederate pension in 1901.

Private James W. Hanberry

James W. Hanberry resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Discharged on December 10, 1861. Reason discharged not reported.

Private Allison B. Harris
Captured

Allison B. Harris resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Mustered in as Private. Present or accounted for until promoted to Musician (Drummer) on or about September 1, 1863, and transferred to the regimental band. Reduced to ranks and transferred back to this company on or about January 1, 1864. Captured near Washington, North Carolina, on or about February 10, 1864, while absent on furlough, confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until he was paroled and transferred to Boulware's Wharf, James River, Virginia, where he was received on March 16, 1865, for exchange.

Allison B. Harris was born circa 1843, the son of Amasa Miller Harris and Elizabeth (___?___).

Private Amasa Miller Harris
Wounded

Amasa Miller Harris previously served as Private in Company H of this regiment. Transferred to this company on October 1, 1863, in exchange for Private Joseph Jarvis. Present or accounted for until wounded in the right thigh at Wilderness, Virginia, on or about May 5, 1864. Returned to duty in July-August, 1864. Present or accounted for until he deserted while on the march from camp near Petersburg, Virginia, to Jarratt's Station, Virginia, December 9, 1864.

Amasa M. Harris was born in 1835 and died after 1901, the son of Henry G. Harris and Sarah (___?___). He married Drucilla Ann Daniels. He applied for a Confederate pension in 1901.

Note: Previously served in Company B, 17th regiment (1st Organization).

Robert Hawkins Harris resided in Hyde County where he enlisted at the age of 19,.on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until he surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865. North Carolina pension records indicate he was wounded in Maryland on October 15, 1862.

Alfred D. Hatch resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until wounded in the neck at Ox Hill, Virginia,, September 1, 1862. Reported absent wounded through February- December, 1863. Dropped from the rolls of the company in January-February, 1864. (Note: It is thought that Private Hatch eventually died from his wounds.)

Alfred D. Hatch was born circa 1843 and died on March 14, 1862. He was the son of John Hatch and Nancy Swindell Rollinson Hatch. Nancy Swindell, the mother of Alfred D. Hatch, was first married to a Rollinson, then John Hatch, then David Gibbs. Alfred D. and James M. were Hatch's, Bannister was a Gibbs. We are unsure who the father of the four girls was.

James M. Hatch resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until killed at New Bern on March 14, 1862.

James M. Hatch was born circa 1843 and died on March 14, 1862, son of John Hatch and Nancy Swindell Rollinson Hatch. Nancy Swindell, the mother of Alfred D. Hatch, was first married to a Rollinson, then John Hatch, then David Gibbs. Alfred D. and James M. were Hatch's, Bannister was a Gibbs. We are unsure who the father of the four girls was.

Private James Garrison Jackson

James Garrison Jackson resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Discharged on January 10, 1862. Reason discharged not reported. He may have later served in another unit.

James Garrison Jackson was born in 1845, and died in 1937, the son of Benjamin B. Jackson and Elsey Wahab. He married 1st to Sarah Ann Sanderson ca. 1866, 2nd to Lizzie Radcliff ca. 1880 and 3rd to Sarah (___?___) aft. 1900. His children by Sarah Ann Sanderson are: Robert Benjamin, Elizabeth and Martha Jackson. His children by Lizzie Radcliff are: Carl, Ralph, Harold, Roy, Mildred and Andrew Jackson.

Additional Family Information:
James G. Jackson (also known as James L. Jackson) was a seaman outside of his service in the war. My father remembers him as having one leg. According to my father, James lost his leg below the knee in the Battle of Wilmington.  He was married three times (again according to my father): 1st - Sarah Ann Sanderson; 2nd - Sarah Radcliffe; 3rd - Sarah (last name unknown), who is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA, (Aug. 1, 1874 - Feb. 1, 1955). James is buried on Princess Anne Road in Norfolk, VA, (died: April 19, 1937). The children we did know of are: James, Andrew, Carl, Leroy, Mildred and Harold Elwood Jackson (1902-1977). There's a picture of James Jackson at a Confederate gathering in the book "Summer on the Southside" (page 28), a book about the Norfolk area. Is anyone related or have more info on James Jackson? James G. Jackson was the son of Benjamin B. Jackson and Alice Wahab, of Ocracoke. His obituary listed the following children: Sons: James L. Jackson, of Clarksboro, NJ, H.E. Jackson, of Richmond, VA, Ralph Jackson of Hopewell, VA, Carl A. Jackson and Andrew J. Jackson of Norfolk, VA; Daughters: Mrs. A. L. Bengal, of New Bern, NC and Mrs. S. E. Davis of Norfolk, VA, also 15 grandchildren.

James D. Jamison resided in Hyde County and enlisted at Liberty Mills, Virginia on March 5, 1864 for the war. Present or accounted for through August, 1864. Dropped from the rolls of the company in September-October, 1864 for absence without leave.

Private Joseph Jarvis

Joseph Jarvis resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until transferred to Company H of this regiment on October 1, 1863, in exchange for Private Amasa Miller Harris.

Joseph Jarvis was born in 1837, son of Jonathan Jarvis and Elizabeth Sawyer. He married in 1853 to Elizabeth B. Gibbs.

Robert Jennett resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Mustered in as Sergeant. Died in Hyde County on October 4 or October 20, 1861 of typhoid fever.

Retired from the service on August 12, 1864. Reason he was retired not reported.

Henry Jennette was born in 1842, son of Samuel Jennette and Esther (___?___). He married in 1866 to Almita Farrow. He applied for a Confederate pension in 1901.

David Linton resided in Hyde County where he enlisted on September 9, 1861. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left forearm at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3, 1863. Reported absent wounded through December, 1863. Reported on detail as a hospital guard at Charlotte during January-October, 1864. Rejoined the company on December 21, 1864. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, March 10, 1865, with a gunshot wound of the left arm. Place and date wounded not reported. Captured in hospital at Richmond on April 3, 1865. Transferred to Newport News, Virginia, April 23, 1865. Released at Newport News, Virginia, June 30, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

David Linton was born in 1842, son of David Linton and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton. He married in 1858 to Polly Hamilton.
