CLAYTONS: Larry Clayton

[The Clayton family migrated from Cheshire, England as part of “Penn’s Fleet”, which arrived at Choptank on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1682. Among the passengers on the Submission were James and Jane Clayton and their six children. By 1687, one of their sons, James Clayton had settled in Kent Co., Delaware. It was his son and grandson who moved to Hyde Co., NC.]

Children: Josiah, Comfort, Gordan, Robert, Jabez Kingsbury, Polly, William Riley and Dupree HARRIS.
William Riley HARRIS and William Gordan HARRIS, son of Gordan HARRIS, went to Mississippi and then on to the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma).

Their son William HARRIS m. Mary (Polly) ? , maybe his HARRIS cousin. William and Polly's son William Gordan HARRIS b.18 Nov. 1835, went to the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma).

William Riley HARRIS:

m. Anna Eliza Cornelia PITCHLYNN - 27 Nov. 1835, Lowndes Co., MS.
William Riley & Eliza Ann Cornelia went on the Trail of Tears to the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma). William Riley was joined in the Choctaw Nation in 1860 by William Gordan HARRIS b.18 Nov. 1835, Hyde Co., NC; s/o William HARRIS & Mary (Polly) HARRIS, gs/o Gordan HARRIS. Gordan HARRIS was also a s/o Ezekiel & Priscilla HARRIS. William Riley and William Gordan HARRIS both deceased Choctaw Nation.

Lorenzo G. HARRIS:
b. 4 Feb. 1809, NC.
m. Elizabeth PITCHLYNN - 4 Nov. 1836 Lowndes Co., MS.
Lorenzo is known to have had a store in Columbus, MS. Lorenzo & Elizabeth (Betsy) went to the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma). Lorenzo G. Harris is given two places of birth: 1. Oyster region, New Bern, Craven Co., NC; 2. Swan Quarter, Hyde Co., NC. Lorenzo G. Harris was the bro.-in-law of William Riley Harris, they lived across the trail from each other in the Choctaw Nation.

JARVIS (with Masons and Harris’): Ed Doughty

[The Jarvis family of Hyde County descends from Thomas and Dorcas (Foster) Jarvis of Virginia and Currituck Co., NC. He was Governor of North Carolina from 1691 to1694, the year of his death. His grandson, Foster Jarvis (II) was living in Hyde County, NC by 1731. His grandson, Foster Jarvis (IV) (d.c. 1817) and his wife Delacy were parents of the below Jarvis children. Delacy Jarvis (d. 1847) moved West with her children.]

[William Magowne lived in St. Mary’s Co., MD before moving to Perquimans Co., NC. He may have been the son, or grandson, of John Mackgowen, one of 90 servants transported on the Batchelor of Bristoll in Nov., 1674 from Bristol, England to St. Mary’s, MD. The surnames of many of the other servants transported indicate Irish origin, i.e. O'Neil, O'Reilly, Roark, Murphy, Raney, etc. and more than twenty Mack's.]

MIDYETTS: Kay Lynn Midgett Sheppard

(Matthew Midgett first appeared in Anne Arundel Co., MD in 1703 as a ships carpenter. By 1707 he had moved and was in Chowan Co., NC by 1711. He received land grants in Chowan Co., on the south side of Albemarle Sound, south of Roanoke Island on “Bodyes Island”, and others. Matthew died in 1734.
