Notes: Resided in William & Mary Parish of St. Mary's County, Maryland 
before moving South to the banks of the Little River in Perquimans 
County, North Carolina in the 1740's. There he married Frances Hendricks, 
daughter of Solomon and Mary Hendricks. In the early 1750's William 
and Frances moved their growing family across the Albemarle Sound and 
down the Alligator River to the area which would become the Gum Neck 
area. In 1756 William bought 250 acres there from Phineas Nixon.  In 
1775 William Magowne wrote his will which he signed with an "X".  He 
must have been very ill since he was literate and able to write, however 
he recovered and lived at least seven more years, dying in 1782.
