1753 - 1786

1753: Tyrrell Co. Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, "William MAGOUND made information that William BARNES conceals his Taxables." It appears that William and Francis had moved south to Tyrrell Co., NC by that date, however he doesn't appear on the 1755 tax list there.

27 July 1758: William MAGOUND bought 250 acres for Forty Pounds from Phineas and Mary Nixon (Pasquotank Co. Quakers), land received by Mary Nixon from her father, Thomas Pierce, in a patent dated 30 Nov. 1739. This land is described as: "Beginning the Northwest side of Allegator River at a Gum standing by the said river and running No. 60 Wt 400 P (poles?) to a Lorrell thence No. 30 E 100 P to a Gum then S. 60 E 400 P to a Gum at the river thence along the river by the various Courses to the first Station." (Deed Book 1, p. 399).

2 June 1761: Tyrrell County Court Minutes , p. 218: Petition of William McGOWN and others praying an order for a road from the Grapevine Landing to Gum Neck. Petition denied.

20 Aug. 1761: William McGOWN was a Chain Carrier for a grant to Nephaniah Holowell for 656 acres in Tyrrell Co., NC on the W. side of Great Alligator River known as Black Cherry Ridge, joining the river pocoson.

13 Sept. 1775: Will of William MAGOUNE. Names wife Frances and children Joseph, John, William, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth and James. Tyrrell Co., NC Wills: Bk. 1, pp. 119-120.

1779 - William MAGOWNE, Sr., Joseph MAGOWNE, John MAGOWNE and William MAGOWNE, Jr. all were among those who signed a petition for the partition of Tyrrell County.

Oct. Term, 1782: Tyrrell Co., NC Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions: John SMITH appeared in open count and proved the Last Will and Testament of William MAGOUND, Dec’d., and it was ordered to be filed. Frances MAGOUND appeared and was qualified Executrix to the Last Will and Testament of William MAGOUND.

1800: Estate Papers for John Magoune.

21 Jan. 1807: Will of Hannah Megoune, widow of John McGowan. Names daughter Sally Tosky (Torsky / Toxey) and son Job McGowan.
