John Megound (c.1748-c.1800) In a Tyrrell Co., NC deed dated Dec. 22, 1796 (Bk. 12, pp. 470/71) John Megound late a Privet (sic) in the Service of the United States of America, for Valuables to me in hand paid by Samuel Salyear (Sawyer) of the County of Currituck, John Swain and Thomas Warrington of the County of Tyrrell, do grant, etc., unto them & their heirs, all interest, etc., which I now have or may at any time hereafter all Lands, Pay, Rations, Rewards, Bounties, etc., due and owing to me from the United States... all Lands, Pay, Rations, Rewards, Bounties, etc., owing or payable to me. (f. William McGowne, Sr., m. Frances Hendricks, w. Hannah (___?___).)

Thomas McGound (c.1758-by1782) Wake Co., NC: This may Certify that Joshua Luis, James Lucharg, Thos. McGound, Richard Lucharg, James Cullifor, Richard Banks and Theoppile Smith ware all Soldiers in the Contiental line of this state all lost their lives in said service. Certified this 13th day Decr. 1796. Signed: Joshua Hadly, Capt. (f. William McGowne, Sr., m. Frances Hendricks). NOTE: This may not have been necessary until 1796, the year pensions and bounty land warrents were first issued for North Carolina veterans.

THE WAR of 1812
(1812-1814)

Mannan Carrowon (c.1792-1851) - born in Hyde Co., NC; served as a Corporal in Lt. Col. William Watson's Regiment of Militia. Formed to protect the inlets of North Carolina's Outer Banks, principally Ocracoke Inlet. (f. William Carrowon, m. Amy Green, w2. (c.1835) Rebecca McGowan (c.1804-1851), d/o James (below) & Betsy (Hodges) McGowen.)

James McGowan (c.1774-1854) - born in Hyde Co., NC; served as a Private in Lt. Col. William Watson's Regiment of Militia. Formed to protect the inlets of North Carolina's Outer Banks, principally Ocracoke Inlet. (f. Joseph McGowan, Sr., m. Martha (___?___), w. (c.1794) Elizabeth "Betsy" Hodges (c.1773-c.1852).)

Isaiah McGound (b.c.1780-90 - d.aft.1830 ) served as a Private in the Captain William Blount's Hyde County Company. His name was included on a muster roll dated Dec. 13, 1813. This company was ordered to Ocracoke on Dec. 23rd, 1813, then to Charleston, SC. It is not known if this unit was ever in an engagement, but their services were recognized by the State of North Carolina. (Parents Unknown - possibly a son of William McGowan, Jr. or of John & Sarah (?) McGowan, s/o Joseph, Sr. & Martha (?) McGowan, w. Unknown). Any information on Isaiah McGowan will be appreciated.
