This cemetery was photographed & inventoried in its entirety by Jan Orndorff on April 4, 2010.   The cemetery at this church has three sections - left section, right section and behind the church. Many of the graves have a slightly raised concrete slab covering the entire grave with a small plaque imbedded in the concrete with name and dates. (See Lucy C. Campbell's grave) Other graves have an engraved headstone with name and dates, in addition to the slightly raised concrete slab with imbedded plaque. (See tombstone & grave of Hayes Rufus Coval)

The names listed below that have no photos linked to them comes entirely from a booklet entitled Report of Black Cemeteries in Currituck, Swan Quarter, Engelhard and Lake Landing.  It was compiled by Marjorie T. Selby in 1975.  Mrs. Selby was a teacher at Mattamuskeet High School and portions of this booklet were researched by her history class.  These listings are said to be persons reportedly buried in St. John's Cemetery without grave markers.
