PURPOSE: The Hyde County Historical Society was formed in 1963 to preserve and record the history of Hyde County and its people. In May, 1991, the name of the society was changed to Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership is from 1 January to 31 December. Individual dues are $20.00 per annum; Family $25.00 (two family members); Family Plus $30.00 (three family members); and Individual Lifetime $250.00. Individual, Family and Individual Lifetime Memberships receive one issue each of the Spring and Fall High Tides and Family Plus Memberships receive two issues each (to the same address) of the Spring and Fall High Tides. New members may submit name/s and date/s of individuals or families they are researching to be published in a future High Tides. Membership is offered to anyone interested in the history and genealogy of Hyde County.

MEETINGS: The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society meets in the Spring and Fall of each year in various section of the county, and occasionally with the societies of neighboring counties. Members are notified of the meetings in the society's journal, High Tides.

EDITORIAL POLICY: The editors of High Tides solicit information pertaining to Hyde County or its people. The contents are determined by the editors who reserve the right to edit all material selected. An effort is made by the editors to include both historical and genealogical information in the journal.

DONATIONS: The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Donations to HCH&GS are tax deductible and will be used, if possible, as directed by the donor.

LIBRARY: The Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society Library contains a broad selection of publications which may be used for research. The library is located at the Mattamuskeet Library, 20418 US 264, Swan Quarter, NC, 27885.  A copy machine is available and fees are 15 cents per page, which are payable to the librarian when you have finished.  The numbers of the society's library are (252) 926-1955 voice, (252 926-0310 answering machine, and (252) 926-0311. The library may be visited any time that school is in session (normal school hours, 5 days per week). When the school is closed, the library may still be used (except on holidays) according to the following schedule:
