My lines who were born, lived or died in Halifax Co North Carolina:

Robert Young Hudson born Sept 1879 born in Rockford, Surry Co NC. Went to Oxford Orphanage at age 9 when his mother died, when to Scotland Neck, Halifax Co NC after leaving the Orphanage in 1891. married in Halifax Co NC Gertrude Briley of Greenville, NC. Robert was named Samuel Hudson at birth, it is not known when or why his name was changed sometime prior to entering the Orphanage in 1888. The 1902 voter registration names father or grandfather as Samuel Hudson. He named his first son John Samuel. Had 10 children all born in Halifax Co. Robert died in 1932 in Scotland Neck.

Robert's mother was Lucy Ann Hudson, daughter of Young Hudson and Dicy Whitaker, widow of William Linsey Key of Rockford, Surry Co NC. His father is unknown. His mother was married first to Dudley Coe who was killed in the Civil War and second to Samuel Reece in 1882 when Robert was about 2 1/2 years old.

Any help is deeply appreciated.

Subject: [NCHALIFA] Roll Call: STAINBACK & NEAL
Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2013 13:00:14 -0500

I have been researching the Stainback Family for over 30 years. I am interested in any Stainback/Stanback in Halifax Co., NC from about 1850 to the present. My Great Grandfather was Simon Green Stainback (1852-1942) who went to live with some of his children in Weldon and Roanoke Rapids......Sally Stainback Overton....Laura Stainback Birdsong....and Irene Stainback Cooper...after 1910.

There was also another Stainback Family in Weldon in the early 1900's who were originally from Brunswick Co., VA.....Rev. Peter Nathaniel Stainback Sr., David Edward Stainback, Ashley Lewis Stainback, and a host of sisters who married into the House, Rowe, and other families.

My Mom was 11 of 12 children and grew up in Littleton, NC and still have ties to that town. I've got tons of info on these Stainback Families....but would love to correspond with anyone else interested in them.

Also....I descend from Thomas S. Neal who married Nancy Thompson in Warren Co., NC in 1822. I have reason to believe that Thomas S. Neal was the son of Cuthbert/Cuddy/Cud Neal from Brunswick Co., VA and Warren Co., NC. He married Nancy Powell in Brunswick Co., VA in 1795 and then Lucy Roberton in 1807 in Warren Co., NC. The last I've been able to find him is in the 1840 Halifax Co., NC Census as "Cuthbert Neal".....one male 15-19, one male 70-79 (Cuthbert), one female 15-19, 2 females 20-29, and one female 40-49 in the household. He disappears after that. Any help on an estate settlement or info listing heirs for Cuthbert Neal would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

My primary Haliax county line is BURT from 175 0-1830. I am especially interesting Joseph Burt (1731-1788). He married Elizabeth LNU. I would love to learn her surname.

My Joseph Burt, Jr.(1770-1840) married Ann Read 1788 in Halifax. They left about 1812 and moved to Putnam County, GA for a short while before moving on to Autauga County, AL about 1821. Joseph died there in 1840.

Related families are: Coleman, Reed, Marshall, Mathews, Hunt

You can see my Joseph Burt family at my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~opus/p196.htm

I cannot answer your questions about cuthbert Neal...yet...

I am involved with a group of cluster researchers who are tracing a group from Isle of Wight VA, to eventually NC, to SC, to GA to AL. The Neal, Neil, Neale family is big among them.We have traced the group from IOW to Surry, to Stafford, to FAirfax, VA. We are currently in 1730's, 40's, 50's Fairfax VA. And the Neale's are there. We know they are in Edgecombe, Bertie and Halifax NC counties together. I'd love to talk about the Neal/es and whomever they marry etc. Maryellen Horrigan
P.S. (Neale ... seems to be pronounced Neeley in the 17th and 18th centuries., as it is often spelt phonetically)
The first ref I have to my Riggins line is:
On the second Tuesday in April, 1669, Pedro Fernandez, servant of Capt. James Neale, deposed that he was 17 years of age. (Charles County Court & Land Records, D#1:62)
Peter  Fernandis was named NOK for John Regan in 1728 Charles Co. MD

Subject: [NCHALIFA] Neal family
Date: Fri, 28 Jun 2013 08:08:33 -0400 (EDT)

I descend from Joe Neal whose father was John Neal. John Neal's death certificate states his father was "Buck" Neal and mother was Martha Redd though now I know her name was Martha Rudd. I know where John Neal's grave site is and he does have a stone. I am trying to link "Buck" to his father.
I am thinking that Buck is the nickname for William and if that is true then his father would be Cuthbert Neal from Warren County, NC.
I am also searching Allen, Medlin, Holdford, Garner, Hawkins, Edmonds, Ivey, Love, Shaw to name a few families from Halifax Co. and Warren Co. NC.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
