~ GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS ~
I have found it advisable to set up this page to list my requirements for submission. All submissions are subject to my decision regarding the appropriateness of the material, and can be influenced by my judgment regarding issues such as copyright, personal privacy, etc. Please remember that Guilford County NCGenWeb has an Archives section, and that section may be the most appropriate place to send something. A third option includes the mailing lists and message boards for this county, the particular surname involved, etc.
TIME LIMITS:
Given the fact that Guilford County has large urban areas, and is part of the "Metrolina" that stretches from Charlotte to Raleigh, one way to control the website and prevent it from taking too much time and effort, is to limit the time range for submissions. Also, there is the issue of personal privacy. People's
preferences vary in this regard, but my intent is to place that concern at a
higher priority than others' desire to share information on people born in
the last 100 years. With those considerations in mind, I will not accept anything about an individual that is dated after 1900.
PHOTOGRAPHS OF BUILDINGS OR OTHER PHYSICAL FEATURES: I will consider the submission of a photograph of a building or other physical feature that is dated post-1900, but my preference is to limit these to before 1900, and 1950 is the outside limit regardless. These need to be chosen with the consideration of what would be of true genealogical interest to others.
PHOTOGRAPHS OR PORTRAITS OF PEOPLE:
I will not accept photographs which are simply personal snapshots. If you have an image file which is of a pre-1900 photograph or portrait of someone with Guilford ties, I will consider those on a case-by-case basis.
