JOHN THORNTON, Dec. Court 1787

The Last Will & Testament of JOHN THORNTON Dec'd.

In the Name of God Amen
I JOHN THORNTON of the County of Franklin and Sate of North Carolina being Sick & weak in body but of perfect sense and memory do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following
Imprimis I give & bequeath my Soul to God who gave it to My body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter Named
Item. I lend to my wife ELIZABETH THORNTON the one third of my Plantation whereon I now live during her natural life and also three Negroes VENUS, LUCE and JACOB. I lend to her so long as she lives and after her Death I give the Said Negroes to my two youngest Sons WILIE and BURRELL - VENUS, LUCY & JACOB them and their increase. I also give to my wife ELIZABETH one Feather Bed & furniture-
Item. I give to my Daughter AGGA THORNTON two Negroes a wench named BECK & a girl named AMEY them and their increase, also I give her my riding horse & one feather Bed that She calls her own the furniture also-
Item. I give to my son JOSHUA THORNTON one Negroe named NED & one feather bed & furniture and half the Land that I have in this state and half the land I have in Georgia State.
Item. I give to my Son YANCEY THORNTON one Negro named NAT one feather bed & furniture & his choice of all my Horses. I also give him the other half of all my land in this State & in the State of Georgia including the Part that my wife is to have the use of her lifetime & after her death to go to my Sons JOSHUA & YANCY THORNTON to be Equally divided Between them. it is my will & desire that all the rest of my Estate be sold & after all lawfull Debts being paid to be Equally divided Between my wife and all my Children WILLIAM THORNTON, JUDIA WHATLEY & SAMUEL THORNTON, WINIFRED GANT, SOLOMON THORNTON, JOSHUA THORNTON, AGGA THORNTON, YANCY THORNTON, WILIE THORNTON and BURRELL THORNTON-
Lastly I nominate & appoint my wife ELIZABETH, CHARLES GANT & SAMUEL THORNTON Executors of this my last Will & Testament.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this fifth day of October 1787.

To my wife AGNASS - 1253 acres where I now ive, 510 acres where John
Upchurch now lives,
28 1/2 acfes which is a part of the Frazure tract I bought from Elic Young, 55 acres where Robin Jones is living; negro men Charles, Abram & Marymon, boy Theodore, girl Mariah, woman Candiss & her 5 children Peyton, Sealy, Calvin, Mary & Guston; all my growing crop, livestock, etc. all during her life & at her death then to the heirs of my friend WRIGHT YOUNG.

To my sister CHARLOTT SAUNDERS wife of John Saunders - $1. To my brother LITTLEBURY - $1. To my brother JOHN - $1. To my brother STEPHEN - $1. To my mother CHARLOTT UPCHURCH - $1.
