In the State Land Grant Audit Book (1778) it lists Peter McFarland (Entry #534) for 100 acres on the Flat River in Orange Co. Aug 25, 1778. It adjoins Charles Asheley Jr.
There is a William McFarland (Entry #466) for 400 acres on the east side of the Flat River bounded on the east by Peter King and John Brewer and on the south by Henry Horton. August 3, 1778.
In the second volume of the Entry books, there was a reference to another grant for Archer Harris and it REFERENCES – Peter McFarling as a neighbor on the Flat River – my guess – this is Peter McFarland.
THERE ARE NO McFarland’s in the town of Hillsborough, the county seat for Orange Co. – from 1752-1890 – so it appears they were owners of larger tracts of land.
Flat River is north, northeast of Hillsborough.
